PR The PR (Personal Record) thread, v.5

While I was in the weight room getting things done for next week, I randomly decided to stop being a bitch and pull 600. I just pulled in my Nike Frees because why not. 25 lb PR.

Way to be Belph!

I googled perfect snatch to see how these are done...it didn't help

180x15, which was supposed to be a 5x3 but weightlifting sucks and I didn't want to be there anymore.

335 bench smooth with good speed. Got a spotter for 345 and nailed it too, but grabby Mcgrab hands either had his finger tips on it or was just below it, couldn't tell from my angle. It was "all me" though...

Anybody know a good way to fix a sticking point? I'm avoiding grinders and haven't worked to failure in a couple months but when I fail it's about 6 inches off my chest. Pin or board presses?

Pause at your sticking point during concentric.

Where have you seen this recommended? I feel like it would fuck up the mechanics of your regular bench.

I mean, I know people use boards, it just seems like physically pausing the bar at some arbitrary point would be pretty inconsistent and not that helpful.

Just my opinion, of course. YMMV, do what works for you, etc.

More benching with emphasis on better technique.

ok

dan green said that there are 2 types of benching

standard set up he uses with leg drive and getting as tight as possible throughout the whole lift

i prefer being completely tight and lowering the bar slower until it touches my chest and then push through. this allows me to pause and not bounce the weight up. all these reps would count in a meet. is this why i stick there? hard to say without seeing it i imagine.

is there an advantage to the other setup or is it all preference (don't know any big names that don;t bench how dan does)? i've never been able to get leg drive to do much for me, which is almost certainly technique.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about, but Dan Green's bench is ugly as fuck and no one should ever bench like that.
