The Ponies Thread (part 2)

I'm pretty sure it's their way of telling you that your picks have stunk the last few days, T, and that you need to start doing better. Haha. Nah, I think it means that you'll have to sit out for tonight, but don't quote me on that. That's what I gathered, though. I think you're sitting tonight out and then you're back in on Wed. Try to make picks tonight anyways.

That's the part of the contest I was talking about a couple of days ago when I mentioned that it forces someone to play conservative at times. That's what I've been doing the last couple of days. Picking the one horse in all three races that I was most confident in at least hitting the board and then taking some risks in the other two. That strategy kinda sucks, but it seems like the biggest part of the contest is just surviving. So that's what I'm planning to do. Just survive til November while stockpiling my 'lives' along the way, and then going for it the last few weeks.

Sorry for getting you guys involved in this. I should have read and understood the rules before signing up because this really isn't much of a capping contest with the way it's structured. If I knew it was going to be some silly survival pick 'em game I wouldn't have even bothered.

Haha, no worries Shark. It’s not like Blunt and I are putting a lot of effort into it. It’s all in good fun. Matter of fact, just seeing myself so high on the leaderboard was worth it alone. Even if it was just for one day.

Hey, look at the bright side, T. You're still doing better than most people in the contest even with some bad days. You're not out of it by any means, especially considering that there is still like 50 more racing days to go.

Wait, 50 more days? Oh god, there's 50 more days of this. 50 friggin more.

I'm almost breaking the top 1000 boys. Get ready to pay me the big bucks, enduro or whatever your name is. Sounds like a delicious cigar tbh.

Are you able to make picks tonight @t6p?

Yes sir, I’m in with:

Race 2: #5 Mula John
Race 4: #2 Checkerboard
Race 8: #1 Five Butterflies

It says I have 2 lifesavers now all of a sudden too. Not sure what that’s about. I don’t even have time to look at the PPs today so I’m just going with what looked good after a quick glance at your numbers. Maybe that’s a good thing based on how bad I’ve been doing the last few days, haha.

Looks like they've let everybody out of the "barn", so maybe this is the start of the new week for them since they started last Saturday. And maybe they give everyone two lifesavers each week as well? I have no idea. I still have my original 2 and that's all I have listed. This is confusing.

Yea, I get the basic concept but beyond that I’m lost, haha. Oh well, I’ll just keep making picks and hope for the best.

Playing a hi-5 with #6,#8 over #1,#2,#3,#6,#7,#8 in race 12 at Woodbine since it's a mandatory payout.

It would still be good to know since I'd really rather not play conservative if the rules say you don't need to.

Came back #8, #1, #6, #2, #7 and nailed it for a $600 profit. Beautiful.

Holy shit Shark, nice hit! Congrats bud. I’ve never played a hi-5 before.

How many combinations is that and what was the total risk?

Cheers T. It felt great to hit that bet for a few seconds anyways until I jumped up to throw a fist in the air and ended up banging my broken toe. Haha. It still feels really good, though, since it basically puts my account back to the point it was before I went into a slump last month. I've only played a few hi-5 bets before and this is the first one I've ever hit.

It cost me $48 to play that for $0.20 each, so I guess it was 240 combinations. Returned $630 in the end.

T picks a horse in advance thinking he'll get 5/1 and it's looking like he has to settle for something in the 2/1 or 5/2 range. I pick a horse thinking I'll get 6/1 and I'm looking at those same 2/1 or 5/2 odds in reality.

Terrible morning line making much? It's not nearly as bad as that other day though when he made a horse 3/1 on the morning line and it ended up going off at 13/1. Or that horse we picked that was 15/1 on the morning line and left the gate at 3/1.

@t6p picks the pace pattern horse and gets rewarded for it with a W at an okay 7/2.

Yeah, I'm not even going to bother looking to bet these Remington races tonight. I'd rather cap some races for tomorrow instead.

You've got 9 other toes Shark, a hi-5 like that might be once in a lifetime!

All kidding aside, great work cashing that. Love it.

This really is a silly way to do the competition. It pretty much forces us to go directly against what would be considered smart betting principles. Still pretty fun though, haha.

Yeah, it is pretty silly. And different than the way you and I would normally play. But it's the same for everybody in the contest, so it's a level playing field at least even with it's drawbacks. We'll get used to it soon enough I'm sure. Once we know the rules that is. Haha.

@t6p goes back to back with pace pattern horses. This time at short 3/2 odds, though. But still.

Stay hot my friend.
