Movies The Odyssey (2026) - First Trailer

These are the rare opportunities to inform the average Joe and give him a better representation of Antiquity. Instead it's the same tired tropes - leather armour, wrist bands, bland colors, clownish helmets.

They could had at least went with later Ancient Greek style armour that could had been stamped out easy. Heck, even if they just painted the crappy armour they used bronze it would be more plausible and look better...

I dont remember if it was from a disc extra or an interview, but I feel like I recall Nolan talking about period accuracy after The Prestige. Its been a long time, but basically his point was that striving for accuracy shouldnt distract the viewers attention. A lot of the armor people are posting might be more accurate, but I could also see it being distracting to have a dozen dudes walking around in it all the time, going through caves, etc. Accuracy sholdnt distract from the presentation of the story. Thats fair.

For instance, the Penis Armor I posted would be stupid as fuck.

The Penis Armor was actually used for people who rode chariots, so it wouldn't make sense to use it on infantryman. Also, the more elaborate armor would had been delegated to only a few of the higher ranking individuals, most armors wouldn't had been as elaborate, and it would be varied with different types of helmets. That's where the AI recreation fails, it just pasted the wrong type of armor on everyone the same.

To me a futuristic flat black sci-fi Batman-Vader mashup is significantly more distracting. It's not about having to be completely historically accurate, but at least be historically plausible. You're in the Bronze age and nobody is wearing Bronze. That for me is extremely distracting.

I can understand about the batman helmet. But thats one helmet thats probably for a demi-God character or something.

At the end of the day, I see whats probably a small minority of people complaining about the historical accuracy of armor in a greek mythological tale. If the movie is good, none of it matters.

I dunno, my instagram feed is flooded with people complaining and mocking the armor in the movie. I've racked up over 5,000 likes on a comment critiquing it already.

But yeah, ultimately it comes down to the movie being good or not, and I'm definitely going to see it as I have great interest in this time period (currently waiting on a Bronze Age sword I commissioned in Norway to be finished costing me over $1K) but that's also why I'm so critical about it because I know that it could look so much better visually.

Hopefully AI advances to the point where we can get fan-edits of movies kind of like the trailer so we can all get what we want in the end.

Watching sean penn tug it was idiotic.
Classless trash of the meme generation.

Now we're worried about the nolan accuracy,
like the Last Samurai doesn't exist.

Movies are a lost cause,
there is no logic anymore.
