Movies The Odyssey (2026) - First Trailer

These are the rare opportunities to inform the average Joe and give him a better representation of Antiquity. Instead it's the same tired tropes - leather armour, wrist bands, bland colors, clownish helmets.

They could had at least went with later Ancient Greek style armour that could had been stamped out easy. Heck, even if they just painted the crappy armour they used bronze it would be more plausible and look better...

I dont remember if it was from a disc extra or an interview, but I feel like I recall Nolan talking about period accuracy after The Prestige. Its been a long time, but basically his point was that striving for accuracy shouldnt distract the viewers attention. A lot of the armor people are posting might be more accurate, but I could also see it being distracting to have a dozen dudes walking around in it all the time, going through caves, etc. Accuracy sholdnt distract from the presentation of the story. Thats fair.

For instance, the Penis Armor I posted would be stupid as fuck.

The Penis Armor was actually used for people who rode chariots, so it wouldn't make sense to use it on infantryman. Also, the more elaborate armor would had been delegated to only a few of the higher ranking individuals, most armors wouldn't had been as elaborate, and it would be varied with different types of helmets. That's where the AI recreation fails, it just pasted the wrong type of armor on everyone the same.

To me a futuristic flat black sci-fi Batman-Vader mashup is significantly more distracting. It's not about having to be completely historically accurate, but at least be historically plausible. You're in the Bronze age and nobody is wearing Bronze. That for me is extremely distracting.

I can understand about the batman helmet. But thats one helmet thats probably for a demi-God character or something.

At the end of the day, I see whats probably a small minority of people complaining about the historical accuracy of armor in a greek mythological tale. If the movie is good, none of it matters.

I dunno, my instagram feed is flooded with people complaining and mocking the armor in the movie. I've racked up over 5,000 likes on a comment critiquing it already.

But yeah, ultimately it comes down to the movie being good or not, and I'm definitely going to see it as I have great interest in this time period (currently waiting on a Bronze Age sword I commissioned in Norway to be finished costing me over $1K) but that's also why I'm so critical about it because I know that it could look so much better visually.

Hopefully AI advances to the point where we can get fan-edits of movies kind of like the trailer so we can all get what we want in the end.

Watching sean penn tug it was idiotic.
Classless trash of the meme generation.

Now we're worried about the nolan accuracy,
like the Last Samurai doesn't exist.

Movies are a lost cause,
there is no logic anymore.

lol, what

Were the costumes and weapons in the last samurai historically inaccurate?
I asked AI so take it as you want.

Key Historical Inaccuracies
  • Military Advisors: In the film, an American (Nathan Algren) trains the Japanese army. In reality, Japan primarily hired French and German advisors. The real-life inspiration for Algren was likely Jules Brunet, a French officer who fought during the earlier Boshin War (1868–1869).
  • Weaponry: The movie depicts the samurai rebels refusing to use guns to preserve tradition. Historically, the samurai had used firearms for centuries and the real rebels in the 1877 Satsuma Rebellion used modern rifles and artillery.
  • Motivation for Rebellion: The film portrays the rebellion as a spiritual battle to preserve a "pure" way of life. In reality, the Satsuma Rebellion was driven by political grievances and the loss of the samurai’s privileged social status and wealth.
  • Ninjas: The scene where ninjas attack the samurai village is purely fictional; ninjas had not been active in Japan for centuries by the late 1800s.
  • Samurai Armor: By the late 19th century, samurai armor had been largely abandoned because it offered no protection against modern firearms.

Japan took Europeans for their army and city architecture. Although it was America(Perry) who forced Japan to open, so there is merit to the first one. The others can be refuted by the romantic narrative the movie tried to push. They actually banned firearms because they find it not honorable. Katsumoto had an OG mentality and I actually side with the government. Samurais finding out that they are no longer the elite and throwing a rebellion tantrum to "save" Japan. The Ninjas we're kinda bs too but it's good for the movie.

Elon Musk has hit out at filmmaker Christopher Nolan, claiming the Oscar-winning director has lost “integrity” because of his casting choices.

Nolan is currently in post-production on The Odyssey, his adaptation of the ancient Greek epic by Homer.

The film will feature an all-star cast that includes Matt Damon. Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Mia Goth and Benny Safdie.

Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, who is Black, also reportedly joined the cast. It was reported on social media she has been cast as Helen of Troy.

In response to the news, a user on Musk’s platform X wrote: “Helen of Troy was fair skinned, blonde, and ‘the face that launched a thousand ships’ because she was so beautiful that men started a war over her. Casting choices that make the premise incoherent are admissions that the story was never the point and an insult to the author.”

Why is Hollywood so hell bent on convincing me that Lupita is so beautiful?

They did it for The Force Awakens in 2015. She just had a mocap role, but the critics, journalists, and reporters kept fawning over her for her tiny role.

Then for Black Panther, they again kept fawning over her and kept saying how beautiful she was.

But in reality, I have never heard or seen her name get brought up in a conversation by normal audiences, movie fans, normies, etc about who is beautiful.

It feels like it's really coordinated.

She's a Wakandan 4, at best.
