Movies The Odyssey (2026) - First Trailer

These stories have been reinterpretated by every generation. It's a known fact among historians and very legit.

These tales were created to give the common folk some foundation of explanation and structure. They were also meant to entertain very much.

If you're raging about black dwarfs and gay giants you have a different prkitties.

IT'S FUCKING WOKE, MOTHERFUCKER!!!

Or something like that.

Most of the global audience would not be entertained by gay characters romancing one another especially if they are male.

I was hyped for it even if perplexed about Damon castng

Now seems casting is bad on general lol

Very disappointing we arent getting period accurate Penis Armor

No we REALLY know what poked the cyclops eye out, amirite?
Its not about historical accurate armor but how cheap and out of place the whole costumes look. It looks more like a larping event than an expensive hollywood movie. If you make a movie depicting a historical period sure take your liberties but deliver quality. I am always amazed at the production quality of Ben Hur regarding that. No modern day HOllywood movie comes even close.

Other than that Matt Damon seems to be very much the wrong choice for such a movie. My focus in studying history at college was roman history but we also looked up greek bronze age a little and you will find quite different armor sets even just in that area of greece besides your penis armor picture (really only the seaside regions were "greek") and some would look fantastic in a movie.

I would have enjoyed if they at least took some inspiration regarding haircuts from back then.

Imo this film has Nolans general problem that he sees dark colourless pictures as "gritty" and helping the athmosphere of the movie when imo it just makes everything bland and boring from a artistic pov.

Fory anyone reading this and does not know "Ben Hur". Watch it. An amazing movie .

Seems like what people don't like are stylistic choices (lack of color) and historical inaccuracies (costume designs).

TBH I don't really care that much. Braveheart, Gladiator, Apocalypto - three of the best historical epics were all criticized for being historically inaccurate. Especially Apocalypto.
And funny enough Apocalypto was the by far most historical accurate movie of them all even as that always had a lot of smaller inaccuracies (which imo isnt a problem). The outrage on the internet came primarily because an indigen culture wasnt depicted as the peace loving hippie victims of western culture like it is in every hollywood movie now but much closer to historical reality. I get why Mel f.e. used the Aztec ritual of human sacrifice contrary to what we think the Mayans preferred because it makes for better cinema.

Thank you expert for that personal OPINION.

Producers don’t care about India or Africa. They care about cash.

<lol>

Thank you for you whatever ignoring commercial and motion picture history.

India has cash for movies as you would expect from a country of more than a billion people that is also an open society.

There is also Eastern Europe, South America, etc... India and Africa are hardly the only countries there could be issues with same sex love being shown.

You are calling India an open society?!

You are beyond brain-damaged. At best.

Cheers. I will no longer waste my time responding to your 'Ideas'.

India!

You don't know what global context is. You think celebrating gay marriage is somehow the peak of being an open society?

I d say if its a free act of the director because he sees that as his creative vision then yes because a lot of backwater cultures were religion still dominates also demonize homosexuality like in arabian countries and these topics are banished with heavy punishment up to death sentence. In an open society you are allowed to talk about these topics.

The problem we are having in the west is that this is now enforced in production requirements otherwise you dont get the financial support (ESG rating) and networks like netflix/amazon wont produce your content. They enforce homosexual topics and unscientific view of gender. So we in the west are sadly also pushed towards a more closed down less open culture just dominated by annother hypersensitive ideology were a movie including homosexuality is not an act of being open minded but following guidelines.

So in general I would say open minded in a society is if you can go against mainstream /media dominating opinion leaders and political leadership and still are allowed to publish your product.

By that measurement there arent a lot of open minded societies left on this planet.
