Yeah I realise they aren't the best on the market, but my grip was really, really awful and the HGs gave me a cheap introduction into grippers. The main purpose was to help build better grip strength which would hopefully carry over to deadlifting as my grip would give out long before anything else. I think they have helped in that respect.

I got the set up to HG350 for a decent price compared to CoC etc, and am still finding them challenging (can't close the HG250 yet). Eventually I will progress onto better grippers, when I feel like I can justify paying out again. I just checked the Vulcan, looks good.

Thanks for your recommendation and advice, I know you know what you are talking about when it comes to grip.
 
Thing with the Vulcan is if you get an orange spring, you have about 30 grippers in one. save your pennies, or whatever you limeys over there use for currency and invest man. HG grippers are shitty not only because of their knurling and spring quality, but they vary so much in strength. I've seen HG 200 grippers with retarded wide spreads that were harder to close than an average 2.5 coc just because of minor factory fuck ups.

Also if you wanna improve your grip for the DL, training thickbar will carry over and help way more than grippers. It's more "functional', to use a term I generally detest.

Ha ok, will look into that, thanks. I heard HGs can be inconsistent. My birthday next month, maybe I'll give it to my girlfriend as a gift idea for me.

That's right, long, slow, distance. Much prefer doing these outdoors rather than on the mind numbingly boring treadmill. Thanks moyy, but really my grip work is not impressive, you should check out Squat More, he's the grip man around here it seems.

Not bad at all on the OHP. I'd love to be able to throw plates on but that's still a ways off for me.

I also prefer getting outdoors instead of treadmills. yuck. Luckily I live in Southern California, so running outdoors is not usually a problem...

Thanks, but I gotta disagree. I haven't trained grip or bending for more than the random bend or gripper close for a long time now. Though, last night after OHP I felt the urge to grip and made a little video.

I think I am going to be getting a Vulcan again. The grip bug may have bitten me again.

I can't imagine it would be! It was a touch over zero when I did my run the other day, which made it all the more painful, but I was layered up like Rocky, was considering just doing shorts and t shirt but glad I changed my mind.

Really enjoying 5/3/1 so far.

Slight change of plan, decided to make the most of the bench & squat rack at the gym's quietest time (the weekend) when I can pretty much be sure no one will be using them.

So, today was bench day, tomorrow will be squats, Monday and Tuesday will be running.

Bench is probably the easiest day currently, probably due to the fact that I pitched my max a bit lower than what it really is, then minus the 10%. I normally struggle to progress on bench, but think due to starting lighter I may finally start to see my numbers go up.

Did not do any assistance today as I spent some time chatting with a British Super Heavyweight Olympic Weightlifter who was working with a female trainer at the gym.

The trainer was doing some really nice squats and was telling me how she was getting her clients to do the lifts (could this see an increase in proper squatting at our gym??) Anyway I thought I may aswell take the opportunity to get a squat form check done by both of them. They were both impressed (relatively) with my form although they found it strange that I squatted low bar "like a powerlifter" but managed to remain upright and go ATG depth like an Olympic lifter. The super heavyweight suggested I go high bar, so I did my work sets high bar and it was surprisingly not uncomfortable at all. Was pretty happy for the generally positive feedback though.

Weightlifting is apparently the 2nd least funded Olympic sport in Britain, behind Wrestling.

That's pretty sweet to get a form check from an Olympic Weightlifter. Do you think you will give high bar a try or stick to low bar?

Good squatting, you seem to be around the same level as me. What's your squat 1RM?
