Aliens

When I found out how utterly unoriginal the matrix was, I lost respect for it. They ripped off so much i now have it in my comedy genre folder in my hard drive.

Aliens is a really good movie and a sequel to a true original masterpiece which I consider the greatest sci fi and one of the best horror films of all times.

Aliens easily. An all time classic, probably the best sci film action film ever. Genre defining.

People are forgetting how revolutionary Matrix was. Both from a story telling and technology perspective. The story holds up remarkably well and it’s a nearly perfect movie with regard to timing, twists and characterization.

aliens is an epic, no doubt, but matrix is undeniably the better story and the better film.

Both films have their own merits. Aliens is a very good scifi action movie with some memorable scenes. But it's a sequel so the lore had been already created.
Matrix in contrast was the first film of a brand new universe which revolutionized multiple genres and dramatically raised the bar for fx effects. Plus it has probably more epic action scenes, memorable dialogues, cool songs/themes than 99% of the films out there.

I think there is an agruement to be made that the Matrix could be superior in terms of style, personally I do think a lot of that style has dated rather and lets be honest a lot of it was straight up lifted from Ghost in the Shell but still it is very well made. Aliens I do think has a bit less visual flair to it that most Cameron, part of why I'd put it below the two Terminator films.

I think that's really why the Matrix sequels failed IMHO, the appeal of the original wasn't really the world building it was the style, the story was quite bog standard heroism and trying to take it further than that ended up as a bit of a mess. Cameron on the other hand I think is dramatically much stronger, he might be making action blockbusters but he could(pre Avatar anyway) do more than just standard heroism.

I loved me some Matrix back in the day, but this is not even CLOSE. Aliens, all day every day.

This is like asking me to choose between fucking Prime Raquel Welch or Prime Lynda Carter.
Prime Sophia on mystique alone.

Can confirm. I rewatched it in theatres last year for the 20th Anniversary and it still looked fresh as hell besides some of the effects near the end when Neo beats Agent Smith looking dated. The story, cinematography, choreography, effects, mythology... its immaculate. Most impressively its never boring despite having so much backstory and worldbuilding. It's such a talky movie.

Love Aliens and Cameron is probably my all-time favorite director but it's merely a great action movie. The Matrix is a cut above.

ALIENS comes together better than THE MATRIX.

Mainstream film buffs often cite John Williams as the number one film score force -- to the point they'll say his music can make a mediocre moment into pure gold.

The reason John Williams sounds the way he does is because George Lucas asked him to compose like Gustav Holst.

James Cameron was like, "That's a good idea."

Aliens. Because they just had to put the stupid love story element into The Matrix.

The Matrix. The philosophical aspect, questioning reality, what is reality, etc., is just so much better than anything I ever saw in an Alien movie.
