Movies THE MATRIX: RESURRECTIONS (New Trailer)

I'm intrigued at least. It seems interesting. At the same time, it does feel kinda cheap and low budget. It has a very 90s feel while at the same time, not really having a Matrix aesthetic at all. It looks like someone managed to sign Keanu and Moss and do a fan fiction Matrix sequel.

Still, i do appreciate that it looks different and isn't just a non-stop action fest. It looks like it has some good contemplative moments and an interesting story. It'll probably at least be better than Revolutions and that's all you can ask for.

But that's after there was peace between the machines and man right? Its the upgraded version of the Matrix. Basically the Matrix has been patched.

Right....after the reboot it lost the green tint as its more 'real' in a sense with the problem of choice was eliminated.

For sure- pleasantly surprised at the aesthetic- seemingly borrowing some of the key, iconic aspects but otherwise appearing quite different and integrating the original lore with a new dimension of the mythos. I could actually get on board with a movie that goes a different direction rather than just trying to replicate the dynamic of the original films.

A few people alluded to this in the thread but my honest first thought on the trailer was "wow this looks like a made for Netflix movie". It lacked a grand scale feel what I would expect in this world. I'm a less critical after more viewings but it's still seems off.

No the reason he "looks like John Wick" is because thats what Keanu looks like with long hair and a beard. Is he only allowed to have long hair and a beard in John Wick or something?

He was likely filming a John Wick movie at the same time as this, and the studio ain't gonna be too arsed to fuck with that look and won't mind some bleed over from that successful franchise.

"Oh' shit...he looks like John Wick. Wait...maybe that's not such a bad thing..."

Wachowski's saw him show up to hair and makeup and told the studio, F YOU HE'S PERFECT.

Was that the actress from Iron Fist with blue hair as the white rabbit?

Good for her to be movin on up. She was a much better Iron Fist than Loras Tyrell.

I watched all 3 on 4k when they came out and part 2 and 3 ooze big budget. Every shot felt extremely expensive. While that doesn't make for a good movie, it felt like you were watching something epic and grand.

Like you said, this feels like Netflix. I couldn't believe when it said Christmas this year. It feels like it was made in a year and the special effects looked really silly and slapped together.

I do appreciate the different tone though and maybe that will play into the story where everything is dumbed down and sanitized. I'm at least interested in the story and where they go. It was shockingly low key and seems to have plenty of conversation instead of just being John Wick with a Matrix 4 slapped on it.

Oh, by the way, most movies with Christmas or Near-Christmas releases have sucked.

The last one I remembered being good was the Muhammad Ali biopic with Will Smith.

If this was expected to be a huge success, why Christmas? I'm NOT predicting this to bomb, infact audiences made Jurassic World a huge success because of the curiosity of a new Jurassic Park movie after 10+ years.

Its been 18 years for The Matrix, so why Christmas? Why not delay it until next Spring or Summer?

The HBO Max and Warner Brother's deal runs to the end of this year. The Matrix Resurrections was reported as part of that deal. There would likely be financial implications and complications for multiple parties should it be pushed back.

Maybe not Christmas releases specifically (not that this is exactly on Christmas either) but winter film releases themselves can be very big. LOTR/Hobbit franchise was all December, Disney era Star Wars, Avatar and Titanic as some examples of huge releases in that season as opposed to the summer season that most people would associate with big films. The HBO Max/Warner deal also initially launched with Wonder Woman 1984 Christmas 2020.

I guess there might also be an issue of releasing too close with the next John Wick film next summer.

This is mostly true, except all of those releases were either early or mid December.

Wonder Woman 1984, the lone exception, didn't do well at all. $16.7 million its opening weekend with the HBO Max release, with a total of $200 million budget, total worldwide gross of $166 million. That's not counting theater cuts and marketing budget.

That adds to my argument they only put movies they know aren't going to do well very close to Christmas.

It's been so long since I watched the first 3 but I remember liking #1 and thinking #3 was ok. I'll check this one out for old times sake.

Looks terrible.

The first film was outstanding and legitimately changed the game. The second was a great smash em up action movie with some cool thematic moments. The third was convulted as fuck, almost GoT level plot armour.

This looks like they are hoping to catch lightning twice, rather than what it should be, expanding the universe.

I always thought the fanfic of Neo becoming the next architect to preserve humanity whilst the clouds cover the Earth, whilst Morpheus and Trinity keep on fighting the good fight to save humanity's freedom would have been a good basis to introduce a new generation of characters.

Is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II supposed to be Morpheus? What happened to Larry?

Also, how do they travel now with no payphones?

I dont like theyre messing with the timeline and just forcing in this plot with a crowbar. Seems so weird and stupid, I dont understand who thought that is a good idea. Also looks more of a trippy drama flick with a taste of sci-fi rather than what Matrix was, sci-fi foundations and then everything else.

Did the machines come to the conclusion that the last matrix (the sixth iteration according to the Architect in reloaded), failed because of a lack of social media and smart phones?

"humans inhabiting a late 20th century world will grow restless, when humans were truly content was in the late 2010s, with iPhones and blue hair abounding".

Maybe I’m wrong, but it doesn’t quite have the same feel as the first three. I’ll still go see it, but I’m not quite sold on the idea

The prevailing theory I've seen on that is that the Matrix was rebooted to the next version and everyone was made younger with the exception of the anomalies, Neo and Trinity, who have aged.
I like this wild mass guess right here. Think it's the correct one.
