Indeed I think part of the latter is dependant on the former, because studios know any female/non white led blockbuster will attract the ire of insecure right wing man children it is an easy path towards making your film seem politically relevant.

There will always be 'right wing man children' complaining about any minority or female lead in a blockbuster same as those SJW types who are always complaining about "white male" leads

The truth is most people don't give a shit about who leads a movie if the movie looks legit. I remember when Sandra Bullock starred in that Gravity movie and it was sold out in every theater the weekend it opened. Movie got solid reviews from critics with a female lead in her 40s. Get Out was the same way with a first time black director Jordan Peele and a little known black male lead. Both of those movies grossed millions and were a hit with critics and audiences. Get Out was really impressive giving it's low budget and racial themes in the film

The problem with Hollywood now is that they aren't making most movies with the same creativity they have in the past. It seems like they care more about appeasing certain groups than making movies that audiences will love. I love Superbad because it's a funny movie regardless of it's three nerdy white male leads. The first Friday movie (1995) literally had no white people in the cast. It went on to become a 'hood classic' as well as a 'cult classic' with a diverse audience

It's pointless to try and please miserable people who will only complain regardless of how they lean politically. I saw Captain Marvel and I didn't think it was that bad. Could have been better but I enjoyed it. I do see why people didn't like Brie Larson as the lead

Its lack of originality thats pushed Hollywood in this direction, they view tokenistic(not actually very political though) film making and promotion as a potential substitute IMHO.

You look at something like the Ghostbusters remake for example and theres a difference between coming up with an interesting script either for the original characters or new ones and some just saying "what if we made them all women"?

Ultimately I do think Hollywood has been proven wrong, this kind of promotion worked in terms of drawing media coverage, the film did become a talking point by baiting an alt right response but that did not feed though into great sucess because as you say most of the audience still care about quality.

Captain Marvel as a film overall yes I'd agree it was "ok", towards the lower end of the MCU but managed to get by rather on autopilot and Ben Mendelsohn. I do think just having Larson play the role as a snarky "I kick ass and I'M A GIRL!" character rather than giving her much of a dramatic arc was the main issue with it.

Ive tried to watch the first one twice bc the marvel movies are good dumb fun, the character is just not interesting or likeable. She's snarky but not funny, couldnt get into it.

Marvel Studios Unveils Phase 4 Sneak Peek Revealing CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 Will Be Titled THE MARVELS and Nov. 11, 2022 Release Date

Marvel Studios has unveiled a few tidbits as well as its first Eternals footage in a sizzle reel intended to entice audiences to return to movie theaters as they reopen.

Marvel revealed that the upcoming sequel to Black Panther will be titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film, due out July 8, 2022, follows the untimely death of star Chadwick Boseman in July. Filmmaker Ryan Coogler reworked the script following Boseman's passing, and star Lupita Nyong'o noted recently, "the way which he has reshaped the second movie is so respectful of the loss we’ve all experienced as a cast and as a world."

Meanwhile, Captain Marvel II has been titled The Marvels. Once again starring Brie Larson, the film will also include teenage hero Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), who will first be introduced in her own Disney+ show. Actor Teyonah Parris, a breakout from WandaVision, also stars as Monica Rambeau. The Marvels, due out Nov. 11, 2022, is from filmmaker Nia Dacosta.

Marvel also set release dates for filmmaker Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is set for Feb. 17, 2023, and James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, due out May 5, 2023.

The sizzle reel includes the first footage from The Eternals, the Nov. 5 film from Oscar winning Nomadland filmmaker Chloé Zhao. It also features looks at Black Widow, which on July 9 becomes Marvel Studios' first theatrical release in two years, and the upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, out Sept. 3.

Larson is good actress she just plays the role all wrong . Not sure of that was her idea or the directors to be some snarky girl power character. She's a much better actress then the Cap Marvel character she plays. That gimmick qas great with Iron man as it seemed organic but Marvel feels totally forced and annoying.

First rep was jump-assisted, next two were kipped.

The first one she's off the ground before she raises her knees.. not jump assisted.

the other two aren't kipped. Kipping is using the swing of the legs as momentum to swing back up. She's doing it really slowly and the knees go up when she goes up and down when she goes down. If this was kipping the leg swing down would assist with the torso and help pulling the body up. There is no momentum assist with her legs but it does help with maintaining balance a bit. Not even close to being kipping.

I only watched the first one because it was part of the bigger story. Other than that, movie wasn't great. I'll probably watch this one too just to see where they're going with the bigger picture.
