I'll reiterate what I said in the previous TV Show Thread - THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL is terrific. It's one of my favorite new shows of 2017. I recommend this to anyone looking for a lighthearted witty comedy drama set in the 1950s. Rachel Brosnahan is simply fantastic.

Rachel is just so vibrant and lively. Her character in here is the complete opposite of her dour role in House of Cards. Great supporting cast especially Alex Borstein and Tony Shaloub. I've always liked Borstein because she was part of the Mad TV cast. And it's so nice to see Shaloub be likable again. The last time I saw him was in BrainDead and I HATED his character.

Rachel goes topless in episode one and her tits are amazing.

You were super on point with this recommendation. I loved every moment of it with a certain scene in Episode 1 being the obvious winner, but the entire 8 episode season was great.

Fun fact (and Sherdog-relevant), she was the only girl in her high school's wrestling team, apparently.

Never heard of her, but looks like wife material in that pic.

In episode one, she is sort of the perfect wife - witty, intelligent, beautiful, stays in shape, resourceful and totally supportive of her husband's foolish dreams of being a standup comic. You really root for her when her scumbag husband dumps her for his secretary. The wife then discovers she has a natural and incredible talent for standup.

Also a great cook. She literally bribes people with food.

This was an amazing show, can't wait for the return.

That said, I wonder where the story will go from here.

Season 2 will probably be about Midge's struggles in her new career (with her being blackballed and all) as well as dealing with the fact that Joel now knows about her secret. I also think that Midge's parents (or maybe just one) will finally find out about her being a comedian.

Funny thing, although I'm embarrassed to admit it, the first time I saw her in Manhattan, the first thing that popped into my head was "When did Evan Rachel Wood get a boob job?"

The resemblance is uncanny.

I like MMM and RB in these categories, I'd pick them as my favorites.

Looking at all the nominees, I have no earthly idea who's going to win, it's something of a hodge podge.

I've seen this on my Amazon feed.

I'll give it a whirl!

Rachel Brosnahan Wins Best Actress for TV Comedy at the Golden Globes

Rachel Brosnahan won the best actress in a comedy series award at the Golden Globes on Sunday for her role in the series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

She beat out Pamela Adlon from “Better Things,” Alison Brie from “Glow,” Issa Rae from “Insecure,” and Frankie Shaw from “SMILF.”

Brosnahan opened her acceptance speech by thanking the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the show’s “fearless creators and leaders” Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. She then gave a short shout-out to Oprah Winfrey: “Hi, Oprah.”

“This is a story about a bold and brilliant and complicated woman, and I am endlessly proud to be a part of it, but there are so many women’s stories out there that still need and deserve to be told.”

Brosnahan earned her first Golden Globe nomination this year for starring as the title character in the new Amazon series. She had previously been nominated for an Emmy in the best guest actress in a drama series category for her work on Netflix’s “House of Cards.”

Sweet. She was awesome in this.

Amazon eh? I'll check it out tonight. The premise doesn't excite me too much, but I can still appreciate quality television if the dialogue and set pieces are on point.

THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL Wins Best Musical or Comedy at Golden Globes

fdXo54W.jpg

Give it up for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel! Amazon’s delightful period dramedy won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy, on Sunday. This is the third time Amazon has won in this category: In 2016, Mozart in the Jungle won, and in 2015, Transparent took home the hardware.

“Oy, the Spanx,” said Amy Sherman-Palladino while accepting the award at the ceremony held in Los Angeles. After thanking Amazon for their “unwavering” support, the crew, and “my murderer’s row of actors,” the executive producer and creator declared, “I’m going backstage. Is there cheese backstage?”

Created by Gilmore Girls‘ Sherman-Palladino, the series stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, an Upper West Side housewife who dives into the stand-up comedy scene in the 1950s after her seemingly perfect life comes crashing down. It boasts Sherman-Palladino’s trademark rapid-fire dialogue and eccentric characters, like Susie (Alex Borstein), Midge’s misanthropic manager. Tony Shaloub, Marin Hinkle, and Michael Zegen also star.

Brosnahan won for Best Actress in a TV Comedy earlier in the evening.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel beat out ABC’s black-ish, Netflix’s Master of None, Showtime’s SMILF, and NBC’s Will & Grace. Brosnahan was also nominated in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy.
