The majority of Merab's 7 Takedowns were BS

It really shouldnt be considered a takedown unless you are able to hold some sort of control on the ground of your oponent, the majority of the ""taakedowns" were instant popups. Not arguing that Umar won. Just a bit ridiculous to have 7 takedowns with like 5 seconds total control time. Theres no way that defending 10 takedowns in a round should be erased just because you were on athe ground for one split moment in time

You and the poster that won't shut the fuck up about "efficient grappling" should form a team. Call it the "Ambiguously Grappling Duo".

Attempting to take down your opponent (and succeeding) is offense.

We do not score defense.

You and me might not score it, but if the attacker isn't landing anything or they're both landing the same amount, judges absolutely score takedown defense. They shouldn't, but it just ends up looking like the attacker failed on something.

I've seen this a ton in WMMA, which is what I prefer to watch and gamble on. Happens a lot in male MMA too though.

The point is if taking somebody down that instantly gets up and have 0 control time scores points … defending takedowns sure should too
That makes ZERO sense. If a round is 100% equal in striking (zero punches or an exact amount each) and one guy gets a TD and the other guy did not it isn't a tie.

If they are off their feet, it's a takedown.
Right on VA. It's hard to make it Any More F'n Simple than that.

Like it or not, if you are caused to lose your balance and get taken off your feet, that's a takedown. Nothing further is needed.

The more takedowns a fighter gets, the more dominance and control is shown.

Merab is strong but has pillow fists. He doesn't seem to be able to finish fights on the ground or in striking. It's more like a marathon than an actual fight.

Merab Machine he was spam takedown like animal for tire out Umar N, and never was let him mount offense! Also, he was control him like older sibling playing with little bro 🦍

How you not count this effectiveness, XSWL 🤣

Ah yes let’s change the rules because the guy from Dagestan with a name that ends in a v lost.

Yes a dagestani iis hard to take and hold down

I don’t see the problem here Merab won very clearly.

They were good enough to gas Umar out and make him look like he didn't want to be there. Mission accomplished.

Why do you think Nurmagomedov gassed? It's not because he is out of shape and unprepared.

Merab never let him breathe and was CONSTANTLY trying to take him down for the last half of the fight. He drowned his opponent by attempting approximately a thousand takedowns and briefly succeeding 7 times.

In the process he defended his belt, defeated an undefeated future champion, and made history.

And you people want to argue about statistics.

He throw too many kicks at the start, that always makes you tired

The majority of Umar's career was BS

Merab's grappling is not very good at all. He can't even hold weak grapplers on the ground for more than 30 seconds. However, his ability to knock you to the ground and exhaust you is God Tier. He uses his strengths and wins fights.

I'm not sure he even tries to control people that much. I think he's fine with people working hard to get up and then just making them do it again.
