Social The left was right about almost everything in the 2000s

Not speaking to the politicians voting for it, but it was the left that were in the streets and around the water cooler talking about Iraq being complete bullshit. It was the right (at least in my circles) that were chanting, "yur either for us or against us!". I realize this is anecdotal, but that seems to be what happened across America.
In my experience very few were vocally opposed to it. Centrist Democrats all seemed to be in favor and only the fringes (Code Pink) raised their voices. Not discounting your experience, that’s just what I remember. Full disclosure: I was primarily a Fox News guy back then.

Yeah, maybe it just seemed that way in my little bubble.

Most everyone was for it, initially. The attitudes changed when the death toll of American soldiers started to add up, with seemingly no purpose or end to the conflict. Especially after being told "Mission Accomplished".

Yep. For me it was the fruitless search for WMDs and obviously the mounting death toll. Not just Americans either. Hearing about 30 Iraqi civilians dying day in day out was terrible.

Some more things:

Climate Change
The left emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change, advocating for renewable energy and regulation of emissions. The scientific consensus on human-driven climate change has grown stronger, and global weather extremes increasingly align with early climate models.

Financial Deregulation
Many on the left criticized financial deregulation (like the repeal of Glass-Steagall) and warned of housing market bubbles.
The 2008 financial crisis was triggered by excessive risk-taking and inadequate regulation—just as some progressives predicted.
Obamas cabinet was selected by citibank and he implemented too big too fail. His final speech in the white house started with the joke "and if this speech goes well ill give it again at goldman sachs next year" cue the laughter. He also droned the fuck out of people. News flash they fucking lied about caring about anything outside of gay marriage.

I’m European, and I don’t see Obama as left-wing at all. At most, I’d consider him a centrist, just look at his economic policies as proof of that.

Seems underdiscussed. As an Old, I was a liberal in the 2000s. Here's what we were right about:

  • We said the war in Iraq & Afghanistan was a mistake. Crazy how almost everyone agrees with this now, including Trump & all the populists on the right. Who's still pro-Iraq war? Dick Cheney? David French?
  • We said free trade (we called it 'globalization' then) was a mistake. The left was against NAFTA and China entering the WTO, those were always big Republican positions. Does anyone disagree these days?
  • We said gay people should be able to marry each other. This was a super-controversial view in the 2000s. What's the approval rating on gay marriage now? Like 70%?
  • We said weed should be legalized. This was always a big leftwing position. Today it's legal in 40 states medicinally- including super-red ones- and straight up legal in 24 states
The 'right' wing today is just the left from 20 years ago. Change my mind
Clinton was the President who entered NAFTA and the WTO.

The Left (and Democrats) have moved to the extreme left.

The Right has drifted towards the middle

Myself included...

However, I always thought Iraq was a giant mistake. Seriously stupid. Afghanistan had to happen, but we should have left 15 years ago.

And I always thought that Lesbians and Gay men should be able to share in the misery of marriage just like us straight dumbasses. Why should they get excluded... lol

Do you still think Iraq was a giant mistake? Looking back I would say the world realized significant, lasting gains from that effort which achieved the complete destruction of Saddam Hussein's regime that has not been replaced in any aspect since and eliminated Iraq as a destabilizing force in the region.

I have a harder time understanding the purpose and accepting the losses in Afghanistan. What was the goal there that had to happen? The US knows better than anyone there is no winning against the Afghans in their own terrain.

sexual deviancy has been disastrous for the left. Right wingers said gay marriage is a slippery slope and that’s been proven pretty conclusively.
The US is ran by a rapist, child sex trafficker and republicans are notorious for abuse and sexual deviancy. Then there's the closeted, self hating homophobes like @Koro_11. You are operating in a different reality

Reality has a leftwing bias.

Also, liberals may be to the left of conservatives but they are not left. Plenty of liberals supported the Iraq war and were against gay marriage

I think you have Me confused with your dad

You’re projecting again.

Also, really nice of you letting me live in your head without charging rent.
Nah, you're the projector. I'm cool with gay people and see nothing wrong with homosexuality. I've worked with closeted, religious, gay conservatives before. It's legitimately sad. Calling me gay doesn't bother me.

You don't get to be a raging, hateful ignoramus and post pictures of dicks and live that down. I do these drive bys for my own amusement

There's a reason the left went WAY to the left on social issues - They ran out of things to run on.

Gay marriage was passed. People believed in treating every race and ethnicity equally and it shouldn't matter. Women now had all the rights of men.

However, the Dems along with the Republicans, were still bought and paid for by corporate and special interests.

So the Dems CAN'T actually do progressive or liberal ECONOMIC policies. They can't do an economic populist policy that is broadly popular across the political spectrum.

So they have to rely on social issues. That's why we're getting the focus on trans rights, intersectionality, micro aggressions, defund police, open the borders, pronoun usage, etc.

Of course you would see nothing wrong with it.

Being called gay doesn’t bother you because you are gay. Being called gay bothers me even less cause I’m not.

You’re the ones bringing up gayness while thinking about me, and if it wasn’t clear enough before I’ll tell you again I’m not gay and I’m not interested.

I don't post dicks nor whine about gay people all the time, you do. Just the fact that you equate someone with being gay cuz they've no issues with it gives the game away
