Bilbo takes out a heap of the really big ones by throwing hand sized rocks at them.

a bit before that, Thorin and one other guy say something like oh its just a hundred goblins, we'll take them, then they show these big ass mutant looking things running in...not sure they could be that weak.

To those saying its a kids movie, I think the book had the enemies in smaller numbers.

I think its much the same in LOTR, orcs are still huge and armoured but get dropped by any kind of hit

Anime and cartoons are the most guilty of this though. You'll see a non action/super power based series with characters easily dodging bullets and defying physics and all sorts of silly shit.
