News The Global Fight League will launch in April 2025

its gonna be a shitshow, but i'm here for it. i'm more interested in watching fighters i know and the ufc does a horrible job with that. i know almost all of the 50 guys announced so i'm in

Wanderlei is pushing 50 and hasn’t fought since 2018
Global fight league, they should call it Jurassic park fight league

Most of that list is well past it, but I like GPs, and I will watch. Name value should get them at least a small degree of interest, but that probably goes away when the first dinosaur has a heart attack in the cage.

If it had a bunch of young unknown prospects there wouldn't even be a thread here.

Promotions need known names to get off the ground and get people to watch.

Never got why "MMA fans" are so negative towards everything that is not the UFC.
We are negative to everything not PRIDE. But this needs some negative people or better yet some common sense. These guys should be coaching new guys not fighting.

So here's a serious question... who are these team owners going to be? People like Robert Kraft and Lawrence Stroll or more like Jackson-Wink? or are there none? And the "Teams" are a marketing gimmick?

lol at all the people on this sub who think they’re going to be too good to watch this league.

I’m with it. We sure as fuck need alternatives besides UFC and PFL.

Even out of their prime I would still tune in for Mous vs Gus or Rockhold, Lee vs Pettis or Woodley, Moraes vs Who da fuck, Werdum vs Mir.
The people here know damn well they are gonna watch and they are going to pretend not to like it.

So its the PFL with old washed UFC fighters. The fact people actually continue to fund this shit is insane to me. team mma doesnt work, its failed before. This shit is dead in the water. I mean they signed Wandy, Frank Mir? Good luck lasting a few years if that and then going under.

Respectfully disagree. Every time they try and make mma like other sports it fails. IFL with the teams. PFL with the season. It never catches and no one ever cares.

Focus on fights and promotion not gimmicks
The IFL is what I thought when he said team MMA has never been done. You can even say TUF is team MMA.

I'd like to think that most, like me, would just read the results the day after and maybe catch some clips on twitter. Old men can still produce some brutal finishes (Chuck vs Tito 3, Wand vs Rampage 4) but the majority of their fights sucks ass to watch, just think back to Chael vs Wand/Rampage or Shogun and Little Nog's rematches. Or Werdum vs Oleinik. Or Arlovski's fights when he wasn't getting KO'd after the Lins win. Or Thiago's fights.

I'm more curious about how long it'll last, NA orgs that try to compete with the UFC never survive in the long run, and I can't imagine that the guys they've signed are the cheapest around. It'll be a moneypit from beginning to end, but I do wonder if they have enough funds to make it to two years at least.

I think the point of signing all these vets is to gain attention for the product. The same result isn't happening with just fresh faces. Personally, if these guys know the risks of fighting at that age and if they can produce entertaining fights every so often, then I'm on board. It's a step above feeding a Chris Weidman to Bo Nickal.

Of course, there will be people who will go "man this is sad" or "ohh these guys are getting CTE!". Man FUCK ALL THAT SHIT. They'll still be sharing clips on Twitter for everyone to watch and enabling the product with a complete lack of self-awareness. Honestly, I couldn't care less about those people, I just want to be entertained. And if the older guys are getting checks for it, it's good for everyone.

The new promotion is also not drafting everyone so I doubt we're going to see PRIDE-era fighters on every card.

UFC has some interesting competition

<{JustBleed}>lets goooo FINALLY

Luke rockhold vs Greg Hardy, Kevin Lee vs Werdum IDK just go for Broke.... also
work with the PFL, Rizen, Bareknuckles, and even allow celebrities to fight.... Leave no stone unturned.
