Crime The Gabby Petito case.

The fight in Utah was over Laundry taking her phone away from her. This probably means he was paranoid that she was talking/texting other guys.
I honestly know nothing about this, other than the first post in this thread. Can't believe how people can keep in relationships like this, even when the red flags are literally taking your phone away.

Well she was probably trapped since they were living on the road with little money and it was her van.

He was probably a rebound guy, I mean look at him, he's not much to look at, and she was keeping in touch with her previous boyfriend who broke her heart via text. And the more the trip went on the more unbearable it became to live with such a paranoid, jealous fiancee. So she probably decided that it was over and they weren't going to get married in Vegas and she was going to go back to the other boyfriend. And Laundry went beserk, like how could you go back to that alpha boyfriend when Laundry is such a "nice" guy. And killed her in a fit of rage and is still mad at her and life even now.

I don't usually pay much attention to these stories because they are just too depressing but I've been following this one pretty closely because the way that it is playing out with the fiance is just so fucking bizarre.

And now the detectives are investigating whether this case is connected to the double homicide of what appears to be two lesbian hippies that occurred in the same area around the same time. This just gets weirder and weirder.

The 14 year age gap between those two, and the fact the girl was in her mid 20's gives me a weird vibe.

You missed the context of my post, there was a very attractive black girl who was murdered in Houston a couple of weeks back. Brutal attack by an obsessed fan. She had 2.5 million Instagram followers. Almost no media coverage. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but imo she was easily way hotter than both Pettito and Tibbets. Had she been white, my contention is that everyone would’ve heard about her story. Yes, attractiveness is a key ingredient, but let’s not kid ourselves, being white is also a key ingredient.
Moose . Since you keep straying off topic to talk about irrelevant race talk in a murder thread, We need your thoughts on BLM declaring against vaccination and 71% of black people aged 18 to 44 in new york being against the vaccine.

I mean if you are going to go off topic with race stuff, might as well chime in there. You usually have such strong opinions on anti vaxxers being idiots, why you avoiding that thread to derail this one with race baiting nonsense dawg?

Are the BLM folks who are fighting vaccine protocols idiots or not?

<209Bitch>

Anyways. This girl was a huge social media gal, is hot, and combined with "she may be alive" tag and dashcam footage showing her crying, it was just bound to blow up.

You have me confused for someone else, i don't think i've once spoken about anti-vaxxers. The Covid debate bores me to be honest, its been 18 months of this shit, i have no interest in discussing it.

I know that this a long video, but it's interesting so I thought I'd share it. It was a good watch while having a few drinks after work last night.

Was this black girl missing for any significant length of time? It's the "missing" part that draws the eyes. Hundreds and hundreds of young white women are murdered and it never makes national news. If you were into true crime stuff you would know this.

I posted the original link to the story. It wasn't meant as an apples to apples comparison. She was only "missing" for like the weekend I think. before her father found her body.

I understand the intrigue of this story with Petito, but, considering that the story with the black girl happened just a few weeks ago, she is hot, she is also an instagram influencer with 2.5 million followers, had Cardi B and Bow Wow make comments on it, and the murder scene was weird and done by a psycho stalker.....I found the lack of coverage weird.
I wouldn't of expected it to get the same coverage as this case...because the not knowing if Gabby was alive or not was part of the draw, but it doesn't seem like most people even heard of the case with the black girl. (Miss Mercedes)

There is some mystery elements in the story because we don't know how the guy knew her, knew where she lived, and why he killed her. He wrote some weird shit using her makeup on her walls, and stabbed himself in the neck after killing her. So it's not a normal situation.
Kind of hard to believe it wouldn't of gotten more coverage if she was white with all of that information. Probably would've been a story on the dangers of being an Instagram model or something.

The real estate agent?

"Miss Mercedes" was an escort, no? At the least, she was a stripper. I don't think this is an apples-to-apples comparison. Her social media accounts are littered with her grinding on people and deepthroating bananas. I think there is a normal expectation of this person bumping shoulders with random and potentially dangerous individuals in the underworld. A wholesome lady traveling the American landscape with her boyfriend, not so much. Again, the narrative that drives interest in these stories relies on shattered expectations.

I started my statement by saying that it is not an apples to apples comparison.
And I would not have expected the exact same coverage---but I would have expected it to get more than it did considering the circumstances.
She had 2.5 million followers and was mentioned by actual famous people in the same month this story happened.
She was an instagram "influencer" and I think she did some stripping as well. I only knew about it because of black social media.

I'm not trying to push this story to say that it's the same. It's just something I saw, and thought it related a bit to @moosaev point, so I posted it. There have been talks about the "invisible" women minorities for years, especially Native American women.

Too all the self loathing leftists blaming racism for the amount of attention she’s getting, you’re sick.

white families have more resources and general education to launch these difficult search campaigns. Also Gabby was presumed alive when the search was launched. So that garnered more attention too.

it’s unfortunate many black families lack resources to get this kind of attention.

The reason why this gained a lot of attention is because the story went viral on Tik Tok.
thats it... you all need to relax and stop with the racism conspiracy theories. Black people are in the news, stop with the oppression olympics, and let the family figure the case out and grieve.

Imagine if this happened to your daughter then groups of people en masse start insulting her post-mortem. I feel the same way about people insulting George Floyd after his death. (His case had much more attention on it btw)

It was viral on Tik Tok for a while, then twitter before it even became popular on cable news outlets. I see mainstream news outlets scouring twitter for news stories all the time, even to the point where they reply to viral tweets asking the poster if they can use their clip for a news story.

thats why this blew up.

I understand. I heard about this a few weeks ago. Reading the news articles, there was no extended time element to this incident, correct? I think that's an important factor. Do you think it would have received more coverage if it was an equally attractive white woman with the same career? Truth be told, now that Gabby Petito is confirmed deceased, I think interest is waning. People want a resolution in terms of the boyfriend's whereabouts but the emotional element connected to finding the missing person has been resolved.
