The Future for Nate Marquardt

such a fall from grace so fast... kid was riding high after winning the Strikeforce belt for his first fight at welterweight... everybody thought he was going to do such big things.

Whats even funnier is he came over with such big expectations and blew it while Tyron Woodley on the other hand came over and everyone expected more of his wrassalin shenanigans meanwhile he KO's Hieron in like 30 seconds.. and this is why I love MMA

He gon get cut. Really, he had his time in the sun and now it is time to move on and make way for younger talent.

Cut seems most likely. But I wouldn't mind seeing him get one more shot. Maybe Koscheck or a Kampmann rematch?

I actually feel bad for Marquardt. I feel like Anderson Silva stopped him from achieving greatness. If Anderson never came around I could see that version of Nate being the guy to dethrone Franklin, and he could have had a pretty good run at the top of that MW division, but he was never going to reach those heights with Silva standing in his way.

wow never really thought of that but it is true

I don't think his chin is shot, he took some huge bombs from Lombard. I counted at least three solid shots and then there were the follow up shots.

Clearly though, something is wrong. I don't know if its the weight cut or maybe something to do with his camp or maybe he's just getting too old for this. He has almost 50 fights. Its also possible the game has just passed him by. His striking doesn't look as good as it used to and that might be because the level of striking in the UFC has risen since he went on a tear at MW.

Nate time in Ufc is over,Zuffa not going to waste $45k for Nate to lose

Its pretty clear he's done and should retire. He may only be 34 but he's been fighting since 1999. He made his pro debut 2 months before Big Nog, a year before Fedor, and 2 years before Cro Cop. And he has fought more MMA fights than all of em.

He's had a long career that's pretty clearly coming to its end. Nothing to be ashamed of, he was a beast when he was at his best.

it sucks to say but he's past it. and his chin is shot

he is clearly done he has been in mma for nearly 15 years with almost 50 pro fights

before his last 2 fights he had been ko'd only 1 time now he receives back to back 1st round knock outs

those results speak volumes

I might get hate for this, but I think he should get back on TRT. He's up there in age, especially considering how long of a career he's had, and so long as he doesn't make up some BS excuse like I haven't gone through puberty or something, I'm fine with him taking it.

That's what pisses me off about these TRT guys. They make these thinly veiled excuses instead of just embracing it and being like if it helps me fight at the highest level, fuck it.

Getting back on track, Nate needs something to rejuvenate his career so might as well.

I agree. I never understood him cutting to welterweight. He was a beast at 185 not that long ago, well 3 years can be a long time in combat sports, and Sonnen even said he probably deserved a title shot before him during an interview.

If everyone else is on the TRT bandwagon, get back on and bulk back up. Does anyone else remember his destruction of then respected Kampmann at MW? Hell, he's the reason Kampmann moved to welterweight. How about when he smashed then respected Wilson Gouveia? After that he had one of the best knockouts in MMA history when Demian Maia had Wand in his corner and came out acting like a striker and got absolutely smashed by a right hand? What happened to Palhares was just funny. That was one of the small paybacks that thug Palhares has received from another fighter which obviously pales in comparison to being kicked out of the UFC. :icon_excl

Can't edit my post but maybe vs Manhoef too. Lots of really good fights outside the UFC if he gets cut and goes back to MW

Manhoef vs Marquardt, Would end Nates career.

Wouldn't it be better to avoid POWER punchers considering his previous 2 fights???

Nate Marquardt vs. Josh Burkman on a WSOF card sometime in the next year or two.
