After the weekend, where does Nate Marquardt go in his career?

I think his window of opportunity to ever get within title shot distance was gone after the Ellenberger KO, but my position was reinforced when once again he was brutally knocked out again on Saturday. He appeared to have very little confidence going into the fight moments before making the walk down to the octagon, and that's when I knew he was going to get KO'd again. When you cant shake the fear of getting knocked out, I think its dangerous to keep fighting and he should look into retirement in the very near future.

He's had a long career with great moments such as his Tekken 10hit combos, but it appears his best days are long gone, and he may be cut once again from the UFC with another loss. Given his past with PED's I think his confidence is at an all time low, and the KO's aren't going to help him in that department either.

I think at this point the best possible next fight for Nate would be against Eric Silva, both are coming off of KO losses, and would be a good fight for both fighters.

What do others think?

get used to him fighting on fridays nights on axs Tv

Damn I don't wanna see Erik KO him too. Give him someone that doesn't have KO power

Nate Kampmann rematch or Nate vs someone like Pyle

Nate V Kampmann is a great fight too. That's a pick em fight, with the slight edge going to Kampann imo, unless he tries a heavy wrestling strategy like he did against Condit...

At this point I think Nate's chin coupled with his mental state, any striker can potentially knock him out. What Ellenberger did to him, in my opinion is very similar to what Rashad did to to chuck. Rampage cracked the glass, Rashad completely shattered it till you get to the point where the tucked jab from a broken arm from Rich Franklin KO'd him. I think Nate should get a nice big name fight for a shot of redemption to go out on his sword. I think Silva and Kampann are the best options, because if Silva KOs him its another good name on his record, where as Kampann has more to lose if he loses to Marquardt than he does to gain by beating him.

Bellator will take him. Oh wait they don't take don't UFC has beens.

I would not even be surprised if he would consider retirement. He's nowhere near the title picture in the UFC, he has what, like 50 pro fights? He lost his last 3 fights, being really dominated once and KTFO twice.

Ebersole/Story loser? There is interesting backstory with Story as they were slated to fight each other 2 years ago.

Let's be honest, his best is behind him. I feel it happened rather quickly considering he looked great against Woodley. But I'm telling you he's done. Can see it, or lack of it in his eyes,.., like he scared or something!

He just needs to fight guys without powah

At this point, I don't think Nate is at the point in his UFC career to warrant back story development for any of his future fights.

It is my understanding that he is also no longer with Winklejohn and Jacksons, fighting out of a new camp "elevation mma?" something to that effect based out of Denver..

Someone in the thread mentioned he may not even get a next fight in the UFC given his past 2 outings. Very real possibility given the recent cuts. I do believe however Nate can still put on an exciting fight because at this point its bound to end in a TKO.

I honestly think he should consider this

I always thought the move to WW was a bad move for him. He was always a big MW. He never really seemed overpowered. Moving to WW wasn't a solution to his mediocre wrestling. Instead, he sacrificed the speed advantage he usually enjoyed on the feet at MW.

Lombard is the opposite. He was always at reach disadvantage at MW and his frame seemed better suited to WW if he'd just lose some beach muscle.

His chin is shot. I think it might be time to think about retirement for Nate the Great.
