I'm not surprised he's softening his stance on Marvel's F4 after the major blowback he received from his own viewers for his tone deaf disingenuous Thunderbolts review. Glad a lot of people are slowly wising up to the grift.

Here are the Top Comments from his video:

People who watched movies at the cinemas tend to give a more favorable reaction. So out of curiosity, I looked at the Newest Comments since the movie has already come out on home media. And they still disagree with his terrible take.

I don’t mind ‘Drinker’. He has to put out content consistently so when he does previews he’s counting on rumors to help him create that content. And that’s going to land him in the crow eating arena once in a while. Which to his credit, he’ll usually do when he has to.

As far as the ‘Thunderbolts’ review tho.. a lot of the things he points out being wrong aren’t invalid and I would find irritating in a movie too.

Actually, I did a poor job of expressing one of my major complaints.

We almost never see anything beyond one super strong guy hitting another super strong guy, in which case the degree of strength is completely superfluous. It does absolutely nothing to illustrate just how strong these guys are.

We've seen is done incredibly well at a much lower scale with guys that are a millionth the strength level, like missing a punch and casually punching through brick. The Thing and The Hulk are orders of magnitude stronger than that, so strong that the impact of one hitting the other should send shock waves that kill anyone human in the vicinity (within a mile or more). If modern grenades kill anyone within thirty meters, what would a shock wave a million times stronger do?

This has been a pet peeve of mine for decades. The videos I posted in this thread illustrate the physics that comics break and while my understanding of science has never been at that level, I always knew it didn't make sense on any level. Captain America could never have resisted someone stronger than the Hulk, Thanos would have moved through him as easily as moving through air.

Sorry, I'm ranting again.

Please watch this video about "peak human condition". It's pretty funny.

Dude totally agree.
One of my pet peeves is when a guy powerful enough to punch through a tank hits a similarly powerful foe with a street sign .... like why?
And you're also right that having 2 powerhouses fight in a telephone booth lacks context.

lol @ that video

I would like the Inhumans to get their redemption in a future MCU reboot appearance. Karnak's ability to perceive the weakness or "fault" in any object, person, or situation is a cool feature of his character and can translate well on screen. Medusa's prehensile hair manipulation is another cool power. People who watch anime know how cool and OP this power is. Crystal is basically Avatar, able to control all four elements. I do have a story concept in my head about an Inhumans movie where Crystal is the main protagonist and that the Royal Family are the antagonists.

I think thematically and visually they would have worked in the FF 828 world really well. It would have been nice if the FF had two or three movies in their world and then the incursions happened.

He's a Quartering tier reviewer.

Saw it over the weekend. Heres the thing (no pun intended). FF has just never resonated with me. The characters, storylines, Galactus, etc. Just was never my thing in the way that something like X-men always hit home for me. So this movie isnt really for me. But, I can say that if FF was ever your thing, this movie is basically what you've been dreaming of. It did most things right. It was just never a cast of characters and storyline that was gonna make a big impact for me.

Have you seen the movie yet? If you haven't, then everything he would say will make sense to you. That's why his own viewers that watched the movie rejected his talking points because it's just a garbage take.

And that's the danger of these ragebaiters on YouTube. A lot of their viewers probably won't watch whatever the subject matter is and their first impression will whatever that YouTuber will say.

Honestly, it is kind of a stupid decision that accomplishes nothing while alienating an actual fan base. Nevertheless, the movie still delivers if FF is your thing.

Actual hardcore Fantastic Four fans had no problem with this casting of an existing Silver Surfer, and have explained why it worked with this story (in this thread even). She's existed for decades and considering this is an alternate universe there is no reason Shalla-Bal shouldn't have been used instead of Norrin Radd. I thought she was great, and unless I'm mistaken the only complaint is that she didn't have enough screen time to flesh out her story.

I thought she was great.

Fun fact, there have been multiple female Silver Surfers, Shalla-Bal and Juno.

Surfer is a chick. 0/10. Will not watch.
So not only are the Surfer parts the best parts of the movie, there is an overarching theme that actually makes sense for her to be female in this story.
if thats not enough for you there are more than enough men in the movie for you to derive pleasure from.

This assumes that many of those commenters are his actual supporters and that many of them weren’t bs’ing about seeing the movie themselves.

Going off comment sections on YouTube for reliable information is at the very least as sketchy as going off specific reviewers relying on leaked info to form early opinions for centent. Especially a content creator that’s as polarizing as CD is.

Personally I prefer the ‘Movie Pitch’ guy because I at least get a chuckle out of the pitch ideas.

Best marvel movie in a while. While some ideas needed to be fleshed out a bit more I'll take the shorter runtime, kept things moving.

Youre not gonna win this one. "Actual hardcore Fantastic Four fans...". Brah, I was literally just at San Diego Comic con and large group of us went to the movie. Nobody wanted this change and one of the big complaints was how hardcore Surfer fans have never actually gotten to see Norrin Radd in anything except 1 crap movie. Shalla Bal as SS is a completely meaningless character that existed for like 10 panels 40 years ago, in a story that wasnt even about her. Shes practically a "What if...." character. A cameo appearance at best.

I give me buddy crap all the time because hes literally the biggest SS fan I know and I think hes kind of a stupid character. Dont even get him started on how much better Norrin Radd would be.

Also, there were no less than half a dozen Silver Surfer cosplays that I saw throughout the weekend. SS generally isnt one of the more popular costumes. Literally zero of them were Shall-bal. C'mon, man. This was a gender swap just because. If they wanted to go with the "love angle" via Human Torch, it would have made far more sense to have it be Nova (the fire version).

F4 was exactly what I wanted it to be.
The characters were right, the tone was right, the world was right, the story and the stakes, it was all there.
It gave me something to be excited for as far as the future of the MCU goes.
The stakes felt real here, and the tone and story weren't disrupted by a bad joke in the way so many Marvel movies are these days.
They did a really good job of focusing on the characters as individuals and as a team. They're not just shiny action figures with one liners and quirky jokes. They all have distinct personalities and they came across as real people.

I loved the retro aesthetic, and as Dragonlord mentioned, Reed looks and acts like he's from the 1960's. Pedro Pascal was fine as Reed, but I think the strength of his character is going to shine more when we see him in the broader MCU alongside other heroes and villains.
I did not expect to like this version of Johnny Storm, he just didn't feel right to me...but, he quickly grew on me and turned out to be good.
Ben Grimm was great. I really like how they portrayed him--just a real salt of the Earth, good ole' boy from the neighborhood kind of guy. I liked some of the small details they had with him like the sound of rocks scraping against each other when he'd move his fingers/hand.
My newest crush and hopeful future baby mama, Vanessa Kirby was the star of the show though. She was great in every scene. She really brought the heart and seriousness to the movie that elevated it to feel like more than "just a comic book movie".

Galactus was superb. And Shalla Bal was a cool and compelling character as well.

My only real complaint is similar to what @Dragonlordxxxxx said in regards to Reed's abilities. There wasn't much creativity in how he used his powers, so he was the weakest link in that regard.

And one other thing regarding post credit scenes. Is there some rule that one of the 2 scenes MUST be worthless? If we're going to do that, can we at least put the worthless one FIRST so that I don't feel like I wasted my time waiting for the one that is actually interesting?

Also stellar job in how they introduced them without having to do an origins story. Now I'm really curious how they're going to bring the X-men into this, and how we eventually converge everyone together.
Captain America NWO was a dud....but, with Thunderbolts and F4, and what we know is coming...I think....MCU is back.
Break out the red panties, baby

9.4/10 for me.

Got damn. Alright. I'm in.

I already won, you just can't see it. The fact you guys complain about "gender swaps" even with characters you think are stupid in a movie you say you aren't interested in makes me sad.

Just do an image search for silver surfer cosplay to see how popular the female version has always been. Even here on a karate forum she's getting pretty overwhelming praise, which speaks volumes.

Are you familiar with who Nova actually is? Fitting her into this film would have required Olympic level script gymnastics and an extra 30-60 minutes of screen time to make sense. Do you know how she got her powers?
