The Diaz Delusion

He quit competing every time he had to face wrestlers. Nick claims to be the best fighter but never fought his way through the rankings the way every great fighter does. Nick Diaz was never willing to back up his claim. He fights hand picked opponents and even then loses against the best of them.

Wolf tickets, son. Wolf tickets.
His handpicked opponents being people like Anderson Silva a weight class above him. Quite a wolf ticket seller.

And he fought not to get finished. That's it. He wasn't even competitive with post-Weidman Silva coming back from his leg break.

Him and his brother have done that for years. Either a fighter fights them the way they want (MJ vs Nate) or they simply start mean mugging and fighting to survive to a decision by taking no risks and then claiming they were robbed.

He went a competitive 5 rounds with a much larger juiced Silva who couldn't put him in any danger of being finished.
Unsure if you're trolling or just stupid.

He thinks of fighting differently than regular rules and what not. If one were to have to fight until a sub or knockout Diaz would be the best in the world at least at WW. Obviously that's not the case though.

I think his argument is that steroid users are cheaters and thus don't count and his only two "real" losses of note are to GSP (often accused of PEDs) and Anderson (caught with PEDs) which, although I certainly don't personally agree with it, is at least a cogent argument to make.

What about his losses to Jeremy Jackson, Karo, Diego, Riggs, and Noons?

The problem with Diaz is that not only can he not take responsibility for the shit he has done, he can't even take responsibility for the shit he tried to do, but couldn't. He's a manchild.

I think both brothers are very good fighters, and they are entertaining. That being said I laugh at how they claim to win fights when they have clearly lost. It's always the same thing, "He was holding on, he was scared, I did more damage." It's true sometimes, but it's ridiculous in some fights as well. They do not get robbed all the time. They have been beat plenty of times fairly. Their fans don't seem to think so.

All these shertards are fucking neurological doctors now. Moaning dummies. Diazs bros are the most exciting draws to ufc. Go eat a dick.

Gotosleepho.....:D

Fun fighters to watch, def head cases, though.

Nick doesn't consider it a loss when a guy runs from him the whole fight or he can stand in a ninja stance with his back to a guy and they still won't engage

I can see why
Should the other fighter consider it a loss when Nick fails to land much offense due to his refusal to fight guys not standing directly in front of him? How about when he fails to engage because he is to busy amusing the crowd with ninja stances?

That's the thing about Diaz. He makes these honest comments that often sound dumb on the surface but suggest an intelligent opinion and deep level of understanding underneath.

Here he is intentionally bringing up the duality that the idea of making any money, let alone the huge sums he has received, from fighting of all things is more lucky and incredible than he could have ever imagined. However, over the years he has come to realize that the act itself of fighting is so dangerous and degrading and requires such sacrifice from its participants that even this entirely unexpected level of success is not worth what he has to put himself through in order to keep doing it in a full time capacity.

You just don't get that kind of meaningful introspection from most fighters, but unfortunately it gets lost under his inability to express himself.

That's so profound! "I'm happy I'm getting paid...but I wish it was more."

Why do fans of fighters/fight styles/fights get so emotionally attached to the person that they don't actually know lol ?

Hamiltons my fav F1 racer cos he's daring and exciting, I'm not planning to go on a date with him or fight my neighbour cos he prefers Alonso though.

Why does this guy always insist that he's THE best fighter in the world?

I always enjoy a good Nick Diaz interview for his awkward speech pattern, but below it, it seems that Diaz seems to be pretty insistent that he's the BEST in the world, despite having pretty undisputed losses to St-Pierre and Silva (before the NC) in his last two fights—even insisting he won those fights immediately afterwards.

He could make a case for being ONE of the best, but there does appear to be a certain delusion that Diaz has in regards to his superiority. He's never been ranked as a pound-for-pound fighter from as far back as I can remember, he had a fantastic streak in PRIDE/Elite XC/Strikeforce after leaving the UFC in '06, but has always had mixed success in the UFC—though he has consistently fought the best.

Moreover, what's more alarming is that MMA fans seem to overlook this delusion whenever he makes this statement. Perhaps Diaz is such an inadvertently endearing personality that it's easier to forgive these comments, but I think the fact that nobody calls him out on it further reinforces his delusion and increases his paranoia that everyone is out to get him, which, in turn, further delves him deeper into his "victim" mentality.

The only time Diaz was decisively beat was against GSP. You consider the Silva loss a bad loss? Despite Silva being on steroids, being one of the best counter-punchers, and fought at a higher weight, and didn't come anywhere close to finishing Diaz or doing significant damage?

Op is just jelly that a dope smoking twit has millions of fans(i am one) and he has none.

Go ask Nick I was only saying that is what he thinks, Im sure you could convince him or get smacked trying

not sure if he is more delusional or his fans. He isn't even top 5 in his own weight class, let alone the best fighter in the world.

Well, Condit, who--even though I don't really like him--is the rightful WW champ had to run away from Diaz just to "win" that fight. So...he's probably top 5.

"The last guy I fought, Josh Thomson, he was scared shitless when I was fighting him. It's unbelievable how scared he was in there. He was running for his life. He was making women when I was fighting him. He was making bitch ass lady sounds and that's not bulls--t. I'm not here talking s--t on him, this is reality. He was making woman sounds. He was running out of the clinch. I hit him in the face and he was going "Oh, oh, ehh" making woman sounds I've never even heard out of a man before during a fight. I'm hearing his corner telling him to smile and I'm like, "Yeah, smile mother f--ker" and not a single smile came out of his mouth. He had a look of panic the whole fight. You have to be in there to fight these guys to know that. This is how it went. I've seen him in other fights, he was smiling at the other guy, bouncing around. He didn't have no time for that against me. He was frantic and trying not to get his ass whooped."

Just the mention of "Diaz" on Sherdog causes 1/4 of our fellows to have blood loss to the brain, as it's diverted to their nether regions. You expect decent, thought-out responses from that group?

For those of us that respect him as a fighter and enjoy a number of his performances, but don't feel the need to idol-worship... I'd say you're best to follow him in the cage - not out of it.
