International The Department of War.

So the Vietnam War and Korean War were police actions?

Even though we weren't backing democracies.

Yes and were fucked up and a waste of US lifes with nothing accomplished.

By the way The Department of War was the original name, established in 1789, and it was later reorganized and renamed the Department of Defense in 1949.

Seems like a silly distinction to make since not all wars are fought with the intent of destroying an enemy but you do you.

A War is fought to bring the unconditional surrender of the enemy.

Police actions bring a tie at best. Which is a waste of our people and resources.

What were we trying to do against the Taliban for most of our time there?

We certainly not trying to bring them to unconditional surrender and it was a waste of our people and resources.

I think this is an honest renaming of what the DOD does. I’m also fairly sure the Trump admin just did it to be assholes and not in an attempt to be more transparent

The Global War On Terror wasn't a war bro. Obviously
This is where American politics have really hit us in the ass. We have waged multiple wars without declaring war to skirt our own internationally sponsored laws. Now shit is happening around the world like the Ukraine “special operation” that isn’t technically a war despite it basically being the modern WWI.

We definitely tried to destroy them, while also propping up an alternative government.

Yep. Several people's definitions also don't jive with the actual definition
