^ I wouldn't say "HARDLY" noticeable, lol..but definitely a lot better :p

Oh, it's much smaller now. That picture was at it's biggest, and I just took a before and after from draining it with one syringe. When it was that big, I needed to use two syringes to get it flat again (I was using the smaller 3mL ones), so after that picture was taken, I hit the leftover again. I just have a little piece by the inside curl now, the guys at my gym noticed when I got back (it blew up in Campinas and I live in Santos) but I don't think a normal person would

My GP said it was minor and he wouldn't drain it. Anyways....20 days later it was still painful and it was starting to get harder. I went to an ENT today and he made a small incision and push out all the blood and yellow puss out. So I would suggest people to skip the GP and go straight to an ENT. If you are insured, the copay is the same anyways.

That said, if you are concerned about cauliflower, you should get PPO instead of HMO.

when my ear blew up my GP refered me to the ENt unit luckily, when my other year went i just went to the ent and asked for the smae doctor. never had a problem since they hardend up after draining.

If its in the right place, I heard attaching magnets on each side might work for comression.

It's been all over this thread, but your standard issue GP and Emergency room docs will *not* treat cauliflower ear (in my and many other's experience). The procedure is not complicated. However, in general, only otolaryngologists (ENT) and plastic surgeons will have experience in the procedure, and be willing to do perform it.

Everyone should quit being pussies and just do it themselves...problem solved.

I just finished treating my cauliflower ear and currently have a stitched up bandage on my ear. This experience has taught me that cauliflower ear is nothing to take lightly and mess around with. I understand that the self-draining works for some people, but it's medical fact that these people are taking serious risks of infection (staph for one); the risk may be low, I don't know, there's still a risk of permanent damage.

Anyways, I was seen by a friend of mine who is a ear specialist and he brought in other doctors (plastic surgeon for one) who see this day in and day out and their diagnosis was that, for what appeared to me as a benign swelling, it would require drainage and a stitched bandage.

They told me that draining with a needle and not compressing the ear with adequate bandage would require re-draining for sure (as was mentioned by some other posts). Also, while possibly effective you cannot guarantee that you will not be free from any permanent deformity (albeit minor, but still it might not be something you want).

It's headgear for me from now on. I have a crappy one that didn't do the job. I can't wait for the cliff keen F5 tornado I just ordered, heard great things about it... (lol I'm just now realizing that I sound like a cliff keen seller, maybe, anyways here's a pic of my post-op lol)

Purple just means you bruised it and broke a few blood vesicles. It does not mean it is cauliflower. If it swells up and you can feel fluid trapped in between the tissue layers, then it is cauliflower. It will also be extremely painful. When this happens just drain it asap and keep pressure on it. It doesn't sound like you have it yet. The tissue is irritated right now and could possibly turn into caul if it undergoes anymore serious trauma. I suggest you just take it easy training till it is normal color again or wear head gear. ie just tap in a triangle instead of fighting out of it.

My Doctor gave me pills and told me to put heat on my ear ...but didnt even drain it! is tht ok or am i going to need it drained

It was kind of embarrassing going to the local rite-aid asking for needles, and not knowing what size I needed. Had to explain the situation but they hooked it up afterward. Draining is the way to go. At least in the short term.

Wtf?? Pills??? What kind of pills? And heat?? Its a perochondrial hematoma not a boil! If u don't drain it within a couple days it'll harden and you'll have randy couture ears! Grats!
