The death of the serious mma fan

No way ts. Sounds like you haven't gotten past the sniffing butt stage is what it sounds like to me.

This is pretentious garbage.

I enjoy the UFC as it is just fine. I am far from a casual fan. I enjoy everything from regional promotions to Bellator, to Fight Pass Prelims, to TUF, to international cards, to UFN cards, to PPV main cards. I would also like to see a Diaz/McGregor rematch. Does that suddenly make me less hardcore/more casual than you? Why should the UFC cater to you instead of me? What makes you think you should be the one getting your way?

Some scared little men in this forum. You can't admit pro wrestling was how you dipped your toe into MMA, and your love for the sport is pure. Same with those of you who will never admit to liking Bruce Lee or Bloodsport or Rocky, or joining your local karate dojo as a kid, and that's what got you interested in martial arts.

Come off it. It's sports entertainment. The greatest irony is you are on Sherdog with thousands of posts. Sherwood, the fucking owner who started this site, has always said this is sports entertainment and was never a pure sport. His reasoning is the UFC does things on a whim and has nonsense rankings for who deserves a title shot. It's very obvious it's not a meritocracy of W/L, but who they think is most marketable.

I'm assuming most of you don't listen to podcasts with Sherwood on it, where he explains his thoughts.

Let's act like this is the only fight in existence and that there aren't some seriously incredible cards on the horizon for hardcore fans.

Have you heard of UFC 198??

Hardcore fans being people that still jerk off to senile, geriatric brazilians?

With this latest publicity stunt for UFC 200 it's now undeniable that the UFC has abandoned the serious mixed martial arts aficionado in favor of the casual fan who needs professional wrestling style drama in order to remain interested. I guess it makes sense...why should anyone be interested in this pointless LW rematch at WW that has absolutely no relevance in regards to title contention? Without some sort of contrived emotional string plucking people might just start to realize how dumb this fight is.

It's becoming increasingly embarrassing to admit that I am an MMA fan.

Thanks UFC.

How is it embarrassing to admit that you're a fan?

Give us some examples, I want to hear this.

If you can't appreciate that card I really don't know what to tell you.

To each their own, I guess.

I agree TS, but only if you're a complete pushover as a human being and have next to no backbone.

It's really not that hard to simply look past all of the backroom bullshit and twitter wars and simply watch fights.

If anyone is to blame, it's the individual who gets caught up in all of the irrelevant nonsense and take it to heart.

Because under the banner of the UFC "American MMA" has become almost embarrassingly indistinguishable from pro wrestling.

Yes, MMA's roots overseas were somewhat based in professional wrestling, over the top showmanship, freakshows, etc. American MMA started out on a path that seemed far more talent and skill oriented. It feels like that has changed to the point where marketability and promotion of persona trumps all.

Why does that bother you? They still fight. Just don't go out of your way to see every promotional material possible and you will probably enjoy the sport more.

People like you focus on things that have nothing to do with the actual fights while complaining about people that focus on things that have nothing to do with the actual fights. The only difference is that you are whining about it.

Did a Brazilian bang your gf or some?

Never had a gf, but I would be extremely surprised if any of the fighters on that card would be capable of doing any banging at all without throwing their backs out or something.

Or without ped's, if you know what I mean.

It bothers me because I don't like the undeserved title shots, the cutting of legit contenders, the focus of the lions share of promotional dollars being spent hyping fighters simply because their persona appeals to casuals more than someone else who is more deserving...shall I continue? Or do you feel me?
