The death of the serious mma fan

Bellator is now getting better competition with UFC since they sunk down to their level. Maybe that's a good thing. UFC ain't a monopoly anymore.

i agree DC vs Jones 2 should be the main event then that useless vanity fight that has no barren on any division

With this latest publicity stunt for UFC 200 it's now undeniable that the UFC has abandoned the serious mixed martial arts aficionado in favor of the casual fan who needs professional wrestling style drama in order to remain interested. I guess it makes sense...why should anyone be interested in this pointless LW rematch at WW that has absolutely no relevance in regards to title contention? Without some sort of contrived emotional string plucking people might just start to realize how dumb this fight is.

It's becoming increasingly embarrassing to admit that I am an MMA fan.

Thanks UFC.
Welcome to the social media era as its just the way of things now Im afraid.

Casual fans are just more intelligent than hardcore fans.

1. Being a "fan" isn't a title of honor. People who want to be "hardcore fans" are like people who want to be "hardcore grocery baggers" or "hardcore GED test takers". WOW! You really take your mediocrity to the next level!

2. "Casual fans" remember the point; they want to see two guys fight. They don't get bogged down in this obsession with legitimacy and lineage and blah blah. That's for fedora double chin reddit losers.

"Serious MMA fans" have always been annoying dorks. They need to chill the fuck out and just enjoy the spectical.

Don't bring death into the conversation.
This sport was born in spectacle and spectacle will always be a part of it.
Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.
There is drama in every sport. Even professional chess has had its divas.
The celebrities, and characters, and nonsense is all bringing interest and thereby helping the sport survive.

its happened slowly - hard core fans who really love the actual sport are few and far between - the watered down events was a big part of it, just shows that hard cores dont matter bc the ufc is doing better than ever

kasparov was right and FIDE is corrupt

If that means I don't have to see any more pink hair Mohawk dbags in tapout gear at bdubs then good riddance.

Drama happens naturally nomather what line of work you are in. When you have a bunch of strong personalities with access to social media, drama happens. If you think it's all planned and orchestrated by the UFC you're a retard.

I actually think Bellator is ahead now in the antics and UFC is panicking seeing how much more outrageous they are getting while paying a fraction of the price for the fights. :D

UFC is resorting to "Panic Promotion" - its what you do when others are beating you at your own game of antics

Pretty certain that happened about 8 years ago when they signed Brock

Because you're talking a lot about money and promotion and I know for a fact money and promotion doesn't make quality fights.

It might if more fighters are able to train full time as well as have access to better coaching and training partners.

I feel like a lot of you are just dummies who have been in a fugue state for twenty years, just starting to wake up.

Pride stemmed from Pancrase and Pro Wrestling. The idea was what if well known wrestlers like Takada fought Rickson Gracie for real? What would happen? It's always been a circus.

The UFC is only popular because of a lead-in from WWE to TUF, a reality TV show about fighters. It was spectacle and drama from the start, you fatherless bastards. Just admit he was right, get drunk, and cry next the pool about having no father. The core audience came from pro wrestling. And the "legendary fight" that put UFC on the map was a barroom brawl between Forrest and Bonnar winging haymakers.

The hardcore represents maybe 150,000 PPV according the the Mighty Mouse cards. Probably less because the record low by MM wasn't reported, maybe less than 100k. The rest are casuals whenever you see 1 mil PPV, and some casual cores who buy maybe one or two PPV a year. I bet the vast majority of fans have never bought a PPV in their life, just opting to going to bars.

Just stop. It's a spectacle. Enjoy it you bitches.

All you "hardcores" on Sherdog talk about the drama more than the fights in the first place so come off that shit, just look at which threads are always getting the most attention. When was the last time a majority of the fans here were interested in discussing technical and strategic points of MMA? It's just a bunch of biased, whiny & childlike behavior; trying to push your views on others and insulting them for not agreeing with you. It's embarrassing to see all the posters who complain about how bad casual & new fans are do the exact same thing, and most of the time even worse. At least most casual fans aren't so emotionally invested as to literally despise fighters for reasons totally unrelated to fighting like some little girls over One Direction. Now you tell me who's into the drama? It's not hard at all to ignore what you're not interested in and to focus on what you actually enjoy, but I see absolutely none of that around here and in the general MMA community, so I guess it's just complaining for complaining's sake if you're so drawn to it.

The majority of people here would love to tell everyone else how much more they know than the casual fan and how great they are and it's all bullshit, you're detached from reality and believe for a fact that how you want things to be is how they actually are.
