With this latest publicity stunt for UFC 200 it's now undeniable that the UFC has abandoned the serious mixed martial arts aficionado in favor of the casual fan who needs professional wrestling style drama in order to remain interested. I guess it makes sense...why should anyone be interested in this pointless LW rematch at WW that has absolutely no relevance in regards to title contention? Without some sort of contrived emotional string plucking people might just start to realize how dumb this fight is.

It's becoming increasingly embarrassing to admit that I am an MMA fan.

Thanks UFC.

Fuck that...I ain't going out like no bitch.

I think MMA fans want this to be about yoga, taichi and honor or some crap.

This is about filling arenas and promotion.

"serious" mma fans on sherdogger levels don't actually buy PPVs

No way ts. Sounds like you haven't gotten past the sniffing butt stage is what it sounds like to me.

It's true, UFC is all about getting casuals in the seats - fuck the actual fans who know what's going on.

Dumb bar people who are like THAT IRISH GUY IS COOL and so on

That was Sonnen-esque. Good post.

Fans can take what they want from UFC and MMA, but don't pretend it's something it's not. You're just going to be frustrated.

UFC doesn't care if they have the best fighters, they care if you believe it.

What would you Sherdoggers be talking about then?

The quality of combat will increase with proper promotion and money.

The quality of fighters will increase not the quality of combat*

It's true. I used to get together with 10-15 people for every big ppv. We would either order it or go to a bar. Hardly any bars show mma anymore and none of my circle of friends care about MMA anymore. I'll usually toss the stream on to catch main events now.

It's almost like, when the UFC got really big and popular, lots more people were training, improving faster and learning faster.

You guys just want to keep your dark little fad to yourselves. MMA fans whining about promotion reminds me of people talking about bands "selling out"

It started to get bad in the Brock era: casuals stampeding all over the forums with ill informed opinions, starting a hundred threads a day about their new God.

With Chicken Mcnugget it's even worse.

The increased fake public disinterest of a whiny little pussyclot boi

It's like many entertainment things: once it reaches a certain level of popularity, the fan base becomes increasingly retarded and easily entertained by stupid melodrama. Indeed, the fan base seems to desire said melodrama after a certain point. Then the older fans are left confused and irritated by the changes they see in the (in this case) sport they love and helped to build.

Well yah, because the quality of fighters increased.

We don't have Tank Abbots trying to train for MMA anymore bro.

Quality combat based on what entertainment or the actual quality of figuring? Because you're talking a lot about money and promotion and I know for a fact money and promotion doesn't make quality fights.

UFC= Ultimately For Casuals

OP should probably get over himself.
