Goals & Gains The Dark Knight(Templar)Returns.

BJJ.

First time I've been able to train at the Academy since I was diagnosed, over two years ago. The majority of the class was based on Sweeps, as well as practicing X and Butterfly Guard.

I did three rounds of Rolling. Intensity was maybe 10 - 15%. My partners were fellow White Belts, and took it very easy on me. As much coaching me as rolling with me. I tapped early, and often, to make sure I didn't get injured.

I still feel like I've been on the mats with John Jones. And the Champ had been in a really bad mood.

Luckily, I'm on holiday for the rest of the week, so I have time to recover. I'll bloody need it. I'm lying on my bed as I type this, and just the thought of getting up is making me whimper. My shoulders and upper back muscles are aching, and I've got mat-burn on both feet.

Are you still at RYA?

This class focussed on Sweeps from Closed and Open Guard. After the Sweep, move to Side Control or Leg Lock.

Rolled with two people, a fellow(but much better)White Belt and a Purple. Both took it very easy on me, and spent more time correcting my technique than Rolling. Especially the Purple Belt, who took time after the class to teach me the correct way to Collar Choke from Closed Guard, as well as how to defend against it. During the actually Roll, he of course Tapped me at will. Hell, the White Belt eat my lunch. :)

This class was all about Butterfly Guard, and more specifically, how to Pass it, finishing in Side Control. Professor Rick prefers to teach a small number of techniques per class, and have the students drill them intensively.

Rolling: About 25 minutes, starting in Butterfly Guard. Try to prevent your partner from Passing and Sweep them if possible. If one person Passes or Sweeps, swap positions and restart. I Rolled with fellow Whites, a Purple and even a Black Belt. All of them took it very easy on me. I did Pass a White Belt a couple of times, but only because he let me.

The good thing about being at the very bottom of the pecking order is: there's nowhere to go but up. :)
