Social The daily "AOC says something stupid on Twitter" thread.

My bad for going by the three steps you posted. Clearly I should have never made the assumption they were in any order.

I created my Twitter account specifically to follow AOC and have no others on my list.
You should have already known what AOC's position was, how a bill is made, and the difference between a bill and a resolution before you called her stupid and criticized the plan, and quoted my comment.

Lol again, you guys are calling someone stupid while you are uneducated on how the government actually works, and what the policies you're criticizing actually entail.
Stop forming your political beliefs from tweets, ffs.

What news books do you recommend?
Another stupid comment that has nothing to do with what my obvious point was.

Who said anything about "news books"?
Pick up a book on how the government works, the environment, anything. Read a magazine. A newspaper. Read something other than Twitter to get your news.
This isn't complicated.
If you're forming your political views based on tweets and Sherdog threads, you are an idiot.

Personally I think Twitter is a great tool for following the news, but I guess it all depends on who you follow. Twitter isn’t an actual source of news. You suggested Twitter is a bad place for news and to read books instead, which would imply they are another way of getting news. I do read books, but for a different purpose than news, which made your comment sound pretty silly.

Like I said, I understand now that the three steps you posted have nothing to do with the order.
And I'll stop following her on Twitter since that's no place to get information from.

I feel like you've really taught me a lot.
Thanks!

You're going out of your way to be obtuse.
To anyone that speaks English and knows how communication works, it's pretty clear that my point was about a lack of knowledge. I don't give a shit if you get it from a book, a magazine, or a proper news channel. Amazing how you chose to focus on the word 'book', and started this pretty silly conversation, instead of saying anything of substance on the actual topic.

Twitter is not a good place to get your news, especially for dumb people. It is a good place to see a headline, so that you can then go research further, but the vast majority of people don't do that , as seen in this thread. They see a tweet and the 15 second video attached to it and then consider themselves informed. And then tweets can come from people with their own agendas, so they are usually putting quotes and videos out of context.

I know that Twitter isn't an actual source of news. But people DO use social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook to get their news. So it is in fact a source of news for plenty of people that don't actually watch news programs, or read. It makes getting information too easy, which wouldn't be a bad thing if it wasn't so easy to manipulate dumb people that are too lazy to think for themselves.

You do realize that government officials and agencies have "official" Twitter accounts and use the platform to provide updates (rhetoric, hyperbole, legitimate, etc.) to people don't you?

So if the "official" AOC account puts out a Tweet I can guarantee you the majority of news outlets will treat it as news. As will all of her followers.

Perhaps if you didn’t sound like such a pretentious asshole I wouldn’t go out of my way to be obtuse.

What a stupid cunt. At first her retarded shtick was just funny but now it's just downright insulting and other dumbass progressives are going along with it.

Perhaps if you didn’t sound like such a pretentious asshole I wouldn’t go out of my way to be obtuse.
And again, you have nothing to say about the actual topic at hand. Nothing to say about AOC, or the government, or policies.

Yes, I am going to be an asshole to dumb people like you that waste my time with silly conversations like this.
Be gone.
<DisgustingHHH>

Haha OK man. I don’t really care to argue with people over AOC.. I think generally she says a lot of dumb things and has some dumb ideas (like the green new deal) but she’s clearly not a dumb person. I try to hear people out and see both sides. Your pretentiousness really jumped out at me so I felt the urge to comment. What do you do for a living? You must be a rocket scientist or something with how highly intelligent you are.

My point is simple. A tweet, wherever it comes from, has a limit of 280 characters. Even coming from official sources, that isn't long enough to get a total understanding of a government policy or bill. It's not supposed to be. You need to do more than read a tweet to be knowledgeable on a story. And most people in here read a tweet and dont look further than that.

My point isnt that all Tweets are fake and bias. Obviously, government officials and offices use them. But they arent meant to be one's SOLE source of news. They're just headlines.

A lot of people in here calling AOC dumb have CLEARLY no information on what she's talking about. A lot of the dumb shit I see in these threads is easily debunked had you bothered to watch an entire interview of her, instead of 15 second clips. Or watched her ask questions at committee hearings, or actually went to the Green New Deal website and read what it actually entails, instead of relying on tweets taken out of context, or making shit up.

There is a difference between disagreeing with someone, and someone just being stupid. If you're comparing AOC to Palin it's because you aren't educated. You can disagree with what her views are, but she isnt saying shit that's wrong.

You came into an AOC political thread in the War Room....but you don't want to have an argument about AOC.
Perhaps you can see where my "pretentiousness" is coming from when these are the types of conversations I'm finding myself in? What did you expect to talk about in a thread about AOC?

And also very interesting that it's my "pretentiousness" that caught your attention, and not all of idiocy and irony of dumb people calling a person much smarter than them stupid, but yea, you're totally trying to hear out both sides.

If you think the GND is "dumb" it's because you havent read it.

Nope, I mostly just like to read, which you can see from my post count over the last 11 years.

I’m still curious what such a smart guy does for a living though..

This isn't Tinder.
I came into this thread to talk AOC and politics, not share my biography with someone patronizing me.

Still all about her today with this situation . . .

It's pretty telling how the only photos she'd released are of herself posing for the cameras and none of these 'concentration camps' she's supposed to be crying about.

OK, explain to us all how we are going to do away with fossil fuels, move to electric vehicles, expand high-speed rail to a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary (yes, that is actually in there) and achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions, all in the space of 10-12 years?

Because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez herself couldn't and just called people bigots for daring to ask her to actually explain these things.

And this is the fake news I'm talking about. Where did she say this?
I have heard her speak at length on this topic, and she was never without an answer.
You guys put words into her mouth, and then call her stupid for saying things that she didn't say.

You obviously didn't fully read the plan, and/or don't understand it.
You can start watching from about 25 minutes in where she and Congressman Rho explain what the goal of the Green New Deal is, and how to get there.

It is not an ironclad deal. She wants us to start to do SOMETHING on this issue NOW. We aren't even having a conversation about this in the House or Senate because the Republicans won't even do that. We still have people that think global warming isn't happening, and that humans aren't a part of the problem.

It is a RESOLUTION, it is not a bill. I can't say this enough. These are not the same thing. It is not a bunch of laws banning cows or airplanes. The entire point of the resolution is to start a CONVERSATION and debate about how to solve the problem. A conversation that is repeatedly blocked by the Republicans.
We talk about things like "AOC wants to ban cows because they fart" She addresses the ridiculousness of that in this video. The methane from cow farts IS a problem, but the solution isn't simply to ban cows. She talks about changing their feed to reduce their gas, or finding other GREEN methods around it.
The Green New Deal is not "lets all live in a hippy commune and throw away technology". It's using technology to get where we need to be.

I find it amazing how the Republicans constantly block ANYTHING that Democrats do, but have ZERO plans of their own. If you don't like the Green New deal, then where the hell is the Republican plan? Where is the Republican plan on Gun control? Lobbying and corporation money in elections plan? Healthcare plan? The Democrats are the only ones that ever have plans on this shit, and the Republicans just scream "NO! Socialism!" without offering any ideas of their own. If you don't like what the Dems present, fine, then where's your plan? What Republican is talking about climate change and has a plan to do anything about it? Has a plan to get us away from coal and fossil fuels? Where are they?
You guys bitch at AoC for trying to do something, but say nothing about the Republicans that stick their head in the sand and act like there are no problems that need to be solved.
