As a TUF 1 viewer, it's funny to see Chris Leben described as a competent person. Whether this says more about Leben as a man or MMA judging as an enterprise, I don't know, but good for Leben and I hope that this is the start of positive changes in judging.

I get what you're saying, but he was basically a kid on TUF1, very young, dumb, wild... a lot of this is just him maturing like we all do. Still kinda funny though given how nuts he could be.

I honestly would love to see Leben drive the change that's needed. A judge that actually knows the game, nuances, etc... not some boxing relic that really has no clue. That would be kind of ironic, if it were that crazy fucker that ended up helping fix stuff.

For a long time they didn't. Maybe it has changed recently. This is a huge reason why they see fights differently than the public. We all see one angle

I lived in Hawaii for a long time and I remember when I would go to college at UH I would pass Leben’s mma gym every day. I always thought I might see him one day outside there but never did. Then ended up walking by him a couple times in Waikiki and said hi both times and he stopped and said hello. Nice guy.

I think them having bias would be the bigger concern. They have to pass tests and get licensed to be a ref or judge.

every judge has biases but you know what, time will tell how good of a judge chris is. any reason we should doubt that he will be? seems like a good guy.

I didn't suggest or imply that he would have bias, or that he wouldn't be a good judge. I was replying to the other guy saying that he doesn't trust fighters as judges or refs "cuz brain damage".

I was just saying that bias would be the bigger concern, not brain damage, because of current/former gym affiliations, friends, former opponents, grudges, and all that. Potential bias, in my opinion, would be the most apparent, and obvious, concern.
