But my issue is I felt Bale just felt uncomfortable in that role of playing the philandering playboy and it came across as forced. At least to me. His Bruce Wayne parts of the movie were almost a turn off for me.

Ya ive heard that from others as well. I guess its cause the characters of batman and bruce wayne have changed so much throughout the decades. Not just in comics but also from the old show, to movies and the cartoons. Theres so many different variations and interpretations. No single one is right or wrong. Its all personal preference and the batman of your era or who you grew up with or identified with the most i suppose.

To me growing up a kid in the 80s you would think it would be clear. Even though i seen the OG Batman in the theatre and it was great, I still was a comic junkie and did read Dark Knight Returns and Year One. So when Nolan came out with his films, I was actually quite blown away. Finally, someone was getting it right.

I mean the OG Superman was great, so was OG Spiderman...well first 2 anyway....even Blade. But that Dark Knight Series starting with Begins just upped the ante for comic book movies and has never been topped imo.

"Even"? Gsp was like 185-190 ripped, of course he looked more intimidating. The average guy will struggle to get anywhere near that with a lifetime of training naturally, let alone in a few months getting ready for a film (and I don't think Rob wanted to juice).

Iirc there was outrage on Sherdog because one of very first comments from RP was that he was'nt going to roid up, watching the pic he even showed up more muscular than i expected him to be

Superman has to look comfortable as the geek reporter to fool people. If people are always thinking 'something does not look right, I don't think he is really a geek reporter' it leads them to other conclusions. Same re Peter Parker and Spider man.

If Bruce Wayne does not want people to suspect he is playing a role and is not really a Philandering Playboy, then that act needs to be convincing. The more people genuinely think 'this guy is philandering's playboys'' the better. The more they think 'something is off' the more likely they can conclude he is Batman.

NO one doubted Tony Stark (RDJ) was a philandering playboy, when single. He was comfortable in that skin. I never found Bale comfortable in that skin the way I found Keaton to be.

It's been heavily implied in the comics that Batman is the real person, and Bruce Wayne is just the mask he wears to pass for normal among the humans. In one of the Batman Beyond episodes, a telepath tries to make Bruce commit crimes by pretending to be his own subconscious. Bruce tells the team that he knew almost right away that he wasn't hearing his own thoughts because,

"Bruce Wayne is not the name I call myself in my head"

Just saying. A 5'10 185-190 pounder shouldnt look as intimidating as lets say....Batman. Again, I think Affleck came closest to replicating Batman in sheer size. Around 6'2 -6'3, 220 or more pounds. Bale came second.

Too bad Afflecks performance wasnt as good.

Pattison is billed at 6'1 but looks like he weights 170 soaking wet.

Affleck was SIGNIFICANTLY bigger than me. Wouldn't be surprised is he was at least 230 or 240.

Nearly three damn hours? Horrible news. Most thrillers seem to clock in at the 1:50-2:10 range. Even if you tack on the modern-movies-are-too-fucking-long tax that's still 2:30. No way this needs 2:55.

Yeah, this confirms I will be waiting for it to show on HBO Max. I can't justify a 20 minute trip each way, 30 minutes of previews and a 3 hour batman movie. That eats up half a day and then there's not much left of it. Why the fuck is this movie that long? A batman origin film should be two hours max. This is going to be bloated and boring. Only team up movies that have been building a long story arc deserve that type of runtime.

Not only that, but the given the runtime you'd think they're dedicating a significant amount of the first hour to it being the origin story if Batman.

Which begs the question - What Batman story needs 3 hours to be told?


This really intrigues me, and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad way. It intrigues me and it actually makes me WANT to see the movie, IF the few reviewers I trust say its worth seeing.


About a year ago rumors were going around that the filming for the movie was in dire straights and it needed reshoots. Now given the runtime does it mean they weren't 'reshoots,' meaning reshooting scenes because they were shit, but they were shooting additional scenes?

So many questions.
