I had my misgiving but was willing to give him a chance due to the fact I was appalled by Heath ledger as joker then seeing him blow it out of the water like it’s name was belgrano. I was extremely impressed, I wasn’t a big fan of bales Batman (he was a great Bruce Wayne) so for me Patterson takes 2nd place on the list of best batmans.



I basically did the same. Was so much better off for it

I just saw it a few hours ago and it was alot better than I was expecting.
It's true it is very long but there were multiple points in the movie where
I was like "that was fucking awesome!!"

Zoe Kravitz did fine, but imo her performance was the weakest out of the other major characters by Paul Dano, Robert Pattinson, and Colin Farrell.

The interrogation at the end just looked like an actor trying to be good as or better than joker. Then failing.

Certainly did. There’s something cool though about the fact that every iteration of Alfred seems to involve an actor knocking it out of the park, despite the fact that they all bring something different to the character.

Going back to Alan Napier on the Adam West show to Michael Gough, Michael Caine, Irons, Serkis, and Efrem Zimbalist on the animated series- always a cool character played by good actors.
 
Dano went for it during his Arkham scene with Batman. Absolutely went for it, and you either loved it or felt it was too much. When he realizes Batman isn't on his side the guy just cannot take it and just loses it, lol. Then he starts singing Ava Maria and I'm like, this fucking guy is a nut and I'm glad his ass is in Arkham.

I think it's going to be a performance I appreciate the more I watch the film.

According to a youtube breakdown spoiler of this book, it's stated that Alfred trained Bruce to defend himself. Also that young Riddler was an orphan at the Wayne orphanage.

thought Dano did a great job.

hate to say it, have seen people react that way when things aren’t the way they wanted.. so that scene roped me in.

Now the bit with Riddler and his cell neighbor, didn’t like that so much.
 
6/10 slow, too long, detective element not really too clever. Moive saved by batman's interactions with ridler and the penguin.
 
Was i the only one who was disappointed? As a crime thiller it is a really basic plot with almost no twists and as a batman movie it was ok. Some of the realism was nice and the tech he used seemed possible. My main problem was with the riddler. He just wasnt all that interesting imo. The killings didnt have an effect cause i didnt care about the characters. He was also a little small as batman. I did like that he was batman 85% of the movie. With a different villain I think i would have liked it more. Valcone was miscast as well, that actor had zero intimidation to himself.
 
Saw it yesterday, thought it was pretty good. The opening scene was amazing, but then I thought some of the rest was a bit cringey. The Nirvana song, the line deliveries, the emo Patterson, Farrel being over-the-top with the Deniro impression, the question mark in the cup and bits and pieces a bit too on the nose. It was hard taking the movie seriously for a little while, the costumes and the slightly cartoonish acting of some characters, combined with the gritty realism they were going for just seemed a bit off. First 30 minutes or so I was perplexes by at the high scores, but fans will be fans. However, as the movie went on I found myself settling into it more, and the kinks sorta sorted themselves out. Opening scene, the Riddler, Batman and Catwoman and the story arcs worked well for me. Paul Dano is such an underrated actor and anyone who hasn't seen There Will Be Blood and Prisoners really should.

Also, I got War Room vibes from the Riddler's chatroom...

Disagree. Dano's performance even when suited up was excellent. Ironically, it's only when he was out of costume and locked up in Arkham that I thought he went OTT.
