There is this theater kind of in the hood that is like $3 during the day it's crazy. No idea what the normal prices are. Decent theater to. None of the fancy stuff you'll find at a good theater but just your average theater or what used to be average.
After intense deliberation, I think I might have this movie third after BB and TDK. Personally, I loved the third act, but objectively speaking; it does kinda tone shift and felt slightly tacked on.
Although
Bruce learning that it's not all about instilling fear into criminals hearts and that it's about being more than that, being a symbol of hope. That last narration really does tie everything together in the end.
Still in love with this film tho. I wouldn't change anything, really.
Saw it yesterday, dound it absolutely awesome, solid 9
I think helped A LOT know already what kind of movie was, so lot of things like style, pace and lenght were expected while some of my friends that did'nt knew anything and just thought they was going to see superhero action movie got negative experience
Movie have really lot of truly awesome shit, found interesting i also see some shit very differently than some opinions i've read here
+ Batman: the "but it's the twilight guy!" crowd could not have been more wrong, end up RP may be the best Batman i seen in a movie, specially when you have accepted the concept that he's a young one at his first years.
People complain about his Bruce Wayne being weak performance, but i think for this movie is important understand that Bruce Wayne IS the mask, dude is completely disturbed/obsessed, i found the fact that he's awkward af playing Bruce Wayne a good way to show that for him suit up and pretend to be a normal rich guy is far greater deviation than wear the cape and beat up assholes
The vigilante vibes here are really strong, essentially he feels as crazy as people he fight, except his obsession make him part of the good side
Fighting scenes were very good, loved the speed and him being armored af
+ Characters: Almost everybody did great. CF has been an phenomenal Penguin(wish in next they will go grotesque on him, if he pimp up can be legendary), PD did great as the Riddler and the whole Zodiac gimmick gave the char what he needed to be a main villain, JT gave Falcone enough charisma to don't feel secondary next to "super villains" despite being just a mafioso boss guy, ZK Catwoman was pretty good and she hot af, absolutely better at it than Hathaway.
JW as Gordon did really really good as Gordon, but go against Gary Fucking Oldman is unfair match up
I did'nt liked much AS as Alfred, Michael Caine got him murdered here
Looks like in next movie i will get an actual JOKER, and not Ledger playing a zombie, great expectation considering how good they developed far lesser villains
+Style and Gotham: i see people keep talking about "gritty" and "realism", to the point it's even more like that than Nolan movies... i don't see it like that at all.
Of course it's not Burton style nor some others we got after, but compared to Nolan's flat boring realism this movie had TONS of style, there's lot of artistic stylization going on and gothic+retro athmosphere, city really felt like a dark, smoky, dirty GOTHAM and Batman roam through it every night looking to fuck up criminals
As somebody bored to death by gritty&realistic Nolan's "realistic dude dressed as batman does things in a realistic city", this movie felt very different
Theres stuff i did'nt liked much, but post would go too long lol, doing it quickly
- Catwoman fighting scenes felt fake af, instead all that TKD because 40kg girl know martial arts 40kg girl wins, they could have just gave her a more weapon oriented style and make her nails a more legit thing, going for the eyes as a cat would do vs some big dog
- The "big threat" at the end was absolutely handled as if everybody is retard. The plan itself barely made sense as Riddler had waaay more effective ways to try same shit, and the reaction of people felt twice as stupid lmao
- The pace felt bit off at times... i love long movies and had zero problems with it being 3h, actually went pretty quickly to me
But i feel i seen Batman and Gordon talking in a room like 70 times lol, maybe bit more scenes like the first one where he fucked up the "zombie" gang in the subway could have helped
- The bike, omg the bike. I mean, i was'nt much fan of the car either, but see it only in the dark during night scenes made it look cool.
But that bike is straight terrible lmao, like a very random one that got cheap modded to be a bit "batman theme" lol
I mean, just buy a black Ducati and with zero works alread looks more bat bike than that shit lol
- Teh Woke. To be clear, levels of woke were absolutely minimal, limited and did'nt ruined the movie in any way... but why
- For best Batman movie possible, Riddler can't be your main nemesis
He's perfect secondary villain (looking forward to see him again more like that) but just like Penguin he works great as part of the Gotham zoo, just not inside the main attraction lion cage
But it's ok, feels clear this universe wanted to start slow holding back best cards
The opening weekend is simply a measure of how successful the advertising campaign was, it is not a measure of a quality movie. Celebrating numbers is so dumb.
They really missed the mark when attempting the film nior look, film nior doesn't mean just make everything dark and hard to see.. actually the opposite, you carefully light the subjects that matter so they are easier to see and read.
If you want to see a well done film-nior comic book movie watch the first Sin City, not this.
90% of the movie your eyes are straining to make out the subject matter.
They didn't go for a film noir look, though. It's still a Batman movie first and foremost. Film noire movies have a certain aesthetic that wouldn't work with Batman. They took influence from it, sure, but that wasn't the look they were going for.
Gave it an 9, although I would have gone with 8.5 if that had been available.
Don't know if we're still using Spoiler Tags but better safe than sorry,
Great performances from all the main cast. Pattinson and Dano were the standouts, although I thought Dano went a little OTT at the end. But both men nailed their characters. Pattinson's Dark Knight is clearly still struggling to control his rage and grief. To the point where he's basically Batman 24/7. He doesn't even bother to pretend to be Bruce Wayne. He's not a billionaire playboy. He's more like a young Howard Hughes. A loner with zero social skills who only cares about his specific obsessions.
As I noted after the last trailer dropped, Pattinson's comments about not working out were clearly meant just to Troll the fans. While he's not exactly huge, he looks and moves like an athlete. The fight scenes are better than Nolan's and second only to the warehouse fight in BvS. This Dark Knight has some sick Ground N' Pound. While the movie focuses on the psychological aspects and the detective skills of the Dark Knight, the fight scenes when they do come are slick and memorable.
Dano's Riddler is easily as creepy and memorable as Phoenix or Ledger's Joker, and one can also see the DNA of other infamous cinematic serial killers. Riddler's lair, with it's thousand's of ledgers, are an obvious homage to John Doe from Se7en. The rat trap and explosive collar could have come straight out of a Saw movie.
As one would expect in a movie stacked with veteran actors, the supporting cast is excellent. Kravitz made a good foil for Pattinson, with her cynicism and streetwise pragmatism contrasting nicely with his aloof, Noblesse Oblige. However, it soon becomes apparent that her motives are not entirely selfish.
Props to whoever choreographed her fight scenes; her fighting style is based on speed, evasion and powerful kicks. This allows her to knock out bigger men as long as she can control the range. When Falcone or Batman himself get to close quarters, she's in trouble. This was a nice touch of realism.
And let's face it, Zoe Kravitz isn't exactly hard on the eyes, either
The rest of the cast, as you'd expect from a movie stacked with veteran actors, is never less than solid. Wright makes a good Jim Gordon, Turturro's Falcone is even more vile than the Riddler himself and Farrell, unrecognisable under all those prosthetics, is clearly having fun as the Penguin.
Some people have criticised the cinematography for being so dark it made it difficult to see what was happening. Personally, I didn't have any problems following what was going on. And the lack of light fitted the tone of the movie, and holy shit, they really went there. Especially the ending. Even though Batman and Cat Woman save the mayor and most of the others at the convention centre, Gotham is still left looking like New Orleans after Katrina hit. There is no doubt that Batman's problems are just beginning. Indeed, it may set up an adaption of No Man's Land.
The film is not without it's flaws, of course. I wasn't particularly impressed with the Joker tease at the end. Frankly the character has been done to death recently, and I'd like other members of Bat's rogue gallery to be given a chance to shine. Yes, Court of Owls, I'm looking at you And there's no getting away from it, the last third drags a bit. By the end, I was really glad I'd paid extra for the VIP seat. My ass thanked me.
Was I the only one who thought the mayor's kid might grow up to be Robin?
Over all, the best Batman movie I've yet seen. YMMV
Don't watch Titans so not sure but I bet that kid's gonna be the next Robin a la Jason Todd. He wasn't trying to steal the wheels off the Batmobile but same type of thing, Batman directing him away from a life of crime.
The Riddler has always been very dorky, especially this one. The cling wrap around the head was another reference to Hush so that was cool.
Besides trimming 10-20 minutes off the runtime, the only little thing that would have made the movie better (Spoiler) is if when the city was flooding they played the first few chords of Aenema from Tool.
Riddler, "All it took was fear, and a little focussed violence".
The couple in front of me keep talking and playing with their phones until I kick the backs of their chairs so hard they nearly fall into the aisle. After that, they STFU and turn the phones off.
