That's fair. I can get that "something" felt missing. I wouldn't of been mad at them giving him a little something more in terms of personal accomplishment.

I think the good far outweighs the bad for me. I think I went into it expecting too much on a subjective level. I think it's one that I have to rewatch more times to get the little things I missed and appreciate it more. Its take an adjustment I think because it is so different from the previous movies way of portraying him.

This franchise has potential and I'm excited where they will go with it during the next films. I just hope this rumor I'm hearing that the sequel is set to come out in 5 years isnt true.

@revoltub and @SmilinDesperado 's conversation makes me think this film will get better over time with good sequels that justify some of the growth in Batman from this first film.
That's how I see it as well, and it's how I'm seeing some of these other comic based movies that don't initially knock my socks off.
It's not like before where they make one movie, hope it does well, and then start quickly scraping together something for a sequel.
I think it's pretty clear in this movie that they have a longer goal and vision of the character. There was a big emphasis on growing the character, not just big action scenes.
By the time we see the character in his prime in the 3rd movie, it'll only make the journey all that much better.

Yeah, I came away from this movie more excited about the potential for other movies.
I think it's different nowadays with movies like this, because i don't tend to judge them based only on that film. I know going in that this is part 1 of 3, so I can't really judge an incomplete work totally.
And with the length of this movie, i think it'll take some time and rewatches to really absorb it in. It's definitely a different type of film from past variations of the character.

I hadnt heard that rumor....and jesus, that better not be the case.

Its definitely a good world building type of movie and i thought Reeves did a good job of pulling you into it and creating an escape.

I found a link for the 5 year thing but apparently its "less than 5 years"

https://www.cinemablend.com/superhe...imeline-for-robert-pattinsons-possible-sequel

Which is still a little vague. But hopefully it's closer to 2 years than 5. 3 seems to be the average between direct batman sequels.

The film is WAY too long and very poorly lit.

They really missed the mark when attempting the film nior look, film nior doesn't mean just make everything dark and hard to see.. actually the opposite, you carefully light the subjects that matter so they are easier to see and read.

If you want to see a well done film-nior comic book movie watch the first Sin City, not this.

90% of the movie your eyes are straining to make out the subject matter.

Proper film nior lighting:

The world building was probably one of the aspects that stuck out the most for me. That's the visuals, the characters, and even the music. This was probably the first Batman movie that I really felt like Gotham was a real place.

2025 wouldn't be too bad....hopefully it's sooner rather than later.

One thing that I thought was excellent was early on when

Battinson is narrating and saying that fear is a tool and it shows the couple of segments of perps looking up at the signal and then looking toward, say, a darkened alley and you just know, the way the shot is framed and the way the actor reacts that they really are giving the palpable sense that Batman could just emerge from the dark at that moment and come for this guy.

Batman movies have always sort of indicated that aspect- that Batman could have an impact through intimidation itself- like in the Burton film- the opening sequence when they’re talking about Johnny Gob’s demise or the in the dark knight where the guy backs out of the drug deal when he sees the signal but this was the first movie where I felt that visceral impact of how these guys would be terrified of even the prospect of Batman being there.

Also, I really liked individual scenes that just didn’t feel like your typical Batman film. For instance, when he follows and surveils Selina. There was almost a creepy, invasive vibe there which sort of plays against the notion of Batman’s heroism. And when he and Selina worked together- where she went into the Iceberg lounge and was using the contact lenses to get him information. Really cool sequence in my opinion.

Well it seems its atleast good according to internet

Agreed, I'd give a like if I had any.

But

why did the guy at the beginning ask batman who he was supposed to be or who he was? Isnt it implied that all the criminals are afraid of batman and he just so happens to be the one guy who doesnt know who he is?

Edit: good timing got a like back

I really enjoyed it. Every scene Batman walked among people, I really liked. As far as Bruce Wayne, felt emo if I can leave it at that. Even Robert solving riddles and investigating, I liked the detective part of him. Didn't care for Zoe and it did feel 30 min longer than it should've. Loved the architecture of Wayne manor

I actually thought the architecture of Wayne manor looked way off-base. I couldn't see this version of the Wayne's living there at all. But then again, Martha Wayne was a little nuts, so maybe she decorated the place, lol.

7 for now but gonna watch it again this week to see how I feel. The fighting was the best in the series but a lot of the film made me like the Burton and Nolans more.

I’m not even sure I was that high on the fight scenes. I mean it was a step up from Burton and Nolan in that regard and I liked how it seemed more grounded, but I still take Affleck vs. Luthor’s underlings at the warehouse in Batman vs. Supes- say what you will about the rest of the movie- as the best Batman combat scene.

I thought the coolest parts of the movie were not action scenes but interaction, be it between Gordon and Batman or Bruce and Alfred or Selina and Batman, Falcone and Wayne and Selina or Dano toward the end.

Action was good but when Reeves said something like “we want the audience to feel every punch” I probably expected something even beyond.

What rating did you give it

What rating did you give it

8/10 for me. Might go up to an 8.5 we will see on the rewatch this coming weekend.

For me it was really about some tough to grasp missing piece. I thought almost every element was good but there just felt like there was some tough to identify element that prevented me from feeling it was Dark Knight level of great.

I was thinking and I identified another aspect that bothered me. Non spoiler.

It felt a little too influenced. For years people online have been saying "make batman like se7en!. Make batman like this movie or that movie! I want a Noir batman!"

Maybe it caked on the influence and suggestions too much. When I think of nolan and burton batman they both have a distinct look and seem original and groundbreaking in ways. I don't think of the movies that influenced them when I watch them. However maybe the batman makes you think of se7en a little too much.

Yeah that's why I gave the movie a 6.

Even the part where Riddler gets caught and explains how Batman was part of the plan. Influence from Se7en would've been cool but to copy it all the way through was crap.
