I didn't mention anything about story or plot. It's basically Mashle/Kaiju no. 8 fusion. And that is more than enough as long as the art/animation quality is consistent throughout the series.
But with none of the humor; it's played straight. I'd compare it a lot to Black Clover -- a series that stands in the pocket and hits the most reliable plot tropes. If its the type of series you enjoy, it looks like it'll be great. I just wished it had done something a bit more interesting with its setup. It kept hinting at doing something unexpected, and then the first major arc ends in with the most stock-standard shonen scene possible.
Ahhh... Have not read the manga. Your disappointment is understandable. I was only going by the 1st episode.
If you both love and follow the series, that would be a great memory for a 9 yr old.
He done played himself. Even with the manga there is enough material for maybe 4 more episodes at max lol.
