The Anime and Manga Thread v48

Saw a newspaper article review saying Netflix One Piece live action sucks.

I just realized I've tried 31st Piece as well. I liked the first few chapters but I thought it got lost in the "haha, I know everything!" aspect and failed to build drama. You can only do so much "just as planned" before it loses its shine.

I've also tried taking a break and monster pet previously and didn't continue with them. The former didn't grab me, and the later was very much an "oh, this is definitely chinese isn't it? Yup, it's chinese..." series.

new JJK. GET HYPED!!!

I just finished season 1 on dub. I like it when there's brainless fighting going on, but feel confused throughout the rest of it. Do the subs do a better job at explaining things?

Anybody got any fairly new series they're enjoying? I picked up The Priest of Corruption and have been enjoying it, 19 chapters out so far. Surviving the Game as a Barbarian (27 chapters) is another newer release I've been enjoying.
Have you read Superhuman Era?

It sounded familiar so I scrolled through the first chapter and yes, I've tried it before. I didn't get far because I strongly disliked the character art. They all look like they're suffering from FAS or something.

What are you confused about? There are some directions that I think the author wanted to go but changed his mind halfway. I am not sure it's to throw off the audience or it's difficult to weave this giant story.

Ah. Well I’ve heard similar comments about the art.

Has nice action sequences. I’m enjoying it.

Perhaps I should give it another try. I've changed my mind about series before.

You should definitely give it another go. I'm all caught up with it n been really good. It makes you enjoy the side characters just as much as the main.

Finally got to one piece live action.....

and it's alright

definitely started off rough, and it doesnt match the storyline completely, but it does effectively at condensing, no distracting versioning modifications. 8 episodes to finish from beginning to fishman arc, amazingly fast. Hint on smoker at the start of the next season. A few characters that I didnt like, didnt feel like the jive well, Nami... the whole reason I watched the show is to see how she is portrayed in fishman arc, not liking the fact that she looks like she's much older than the rest of the cast, I dont see any chemistry with the crew. Shanks...... the guy is purely beta and cant seem to flip it around, never once considered a threat, considering how he's among the strongest pirates alive.

Coby.... really well played, did an amazing job.
Coby's sidekick, turned out well portrayed
Zoro did OK
Sanji could have been more of a simp, otherwise good
ussop did a good job
Luffy is kind of mid, he's loud, but doesnt have any charm
Mihawk is great, the actor looks the part and played it well, the costume is a bit too cosplay for my liking.
Garp needs to go on a diet, good actor, but didnt look the part.

definitely waiting for the next season

Mihawk gives me Paul Rudd vibes.

Just watched "A Silent Voice", absolutely fantastic with an important message. Highly recommend, if youre looking for something to watch. Maybe the best new Anime film out there really, even if its a few years old now.
Read the manga AGES ago(we all did actually). Loved it, but it's really one of those manga you can only read once due to how emotionally draining it is. Phenomenal piece of literature and that it didn't get nominated for best animated film confirmed that the oscars were bullshit. Also, check out Medalist for a series that's not to dissimilar.

I rewatched Cowboy Bebop (the anime not the woke dog shit that got canceled). Seeing John Wick gave me de ja voi.

Well, speaking of Cowboy Bebop, something I always liked was when a character briefly shows up that is of great power but plays little to no role in the story; and on that note, I always greatly enjoyed when Ed's father shows up and toys with everyone.

Other than that, when I rewatched it I found myself not caring all to much for most of the standalone episodic content, though some of course were better than others, but the Spike storyline remained as great as ever. It's truly one of the greatest things ever done in anime.

Will do, thanks. Just saw the Boy and The Heron by by Hiyao, place was packed at TIFF - fantastic and definitely Hiyao weird fantasy worlds.

Absolutely awesome anime. A boomer recommded it. Honestly.

I though John Wick4 was so cowboy bebop. I am a fan of Japanese anime. I like Naruto and DBZ. I find the long drawn out narratives annoying so that action packed episodes in cowboy bebop are fantastic.

Keanu waa supposed to star in cowboy bebop the movie I'm the 90s or early 2000s. It never happened but I suspect ideas from that script were pushed during John wick4. Unreal similarities. Far too close for comfort.

Any recommendations for animes?
