Yeah, everything's on the up-and-up; I haven't noticed anything performance wise, either negative or positive. I just got my results from Grassrootshealth.com on my vitamin D status:

Date of Test: 03/26/2009
D2 (ng/mL) 0
D3 (ng/mL) 73
Total (ng/mL) 73
Laboratory Ref Range 32-100 ng/mL


Pretty damn happy with that. :icon_chee There's been some variables thrown in there that may have affected it; I've slowly upped my dose over the past 6 months from a mere 1000iu to 10,000iu, and I had a 10 day vacation in a tropical environment. I'll stay at 10,000iu for the next 6 months, and have it re-tested.

What is your height and weight and what is the od dose again?
 
I think it's a bit much for me, honestly. Especially w/summer around the corner.
 
I've started myself on 10,000 IU's of Vitamin D a day. I'll check in and tell of any noticeable changes in mood, or general feel.

Did you pick up the vitamin D drops? I have been using a oil based capsule. Would the drops/spray be better for absorption but I am worried about getting the right amount? Though an oil based capsule has a full dose each time a droplet is a little less accurate, no?

PURPOSE:: Activated vitamin D (calcitriol) is a pluripotent pleiotropic secosteroid hormone. As a steroid hormone, which regulates more than 1000 vitamin D-responsive human genes, calcitriol may influence athletic performance. Recent research indicates that intracellular calcitriol levels in numerous human tissues, including nerve and muscle tissue, are increased when inputs of its substrate, the prehormone vitamin D, are increased. METHODS:: We reviewed the world's literature for evidence that vitamin D affects physical and athletic performance. RESULTS:: Numerous studies, particularly in the German literature in the 1950s, show vitamin D-producing ultraviolet light improves athletic performance. Furthermore, a consistent literature indicates physical and athletic performance is seasonal; it peaks when 25-hydroxy-vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels peak, declines as they decline, and reaches its nadir when 25(OH)D levels are at their lowest. Vitamin D also increases the size and number of Type II (fast twitch) muscle fibers. Most cross-sectional studies show that 25(OH)D levels are directly associated with musculoskeletal performance in older individuals. Most randomized controlled trials, again mostly in older individuals, show that vitamin D improves physical performance. CONCLUSIONS:: Vitamin D may improve athletic performance in vitamin D-deficient athletes. Peak athletic performance may occur when 25(OH)D levels approach those obtained by natural, full-body, summer sun exposure, which is at least 50 ng/mL. Such 25(OH)D levels may also protect the athlete from several acute and chronic medical conditions.

Oh yeah, been doing 10k a day for a while now; what would be more accurate would be stay at 10k regardless of sun exposure, but when I have been getting some quality sun (I dragged a C2 rower out the side door of my gym one day and rowed for a hour or so in just shorts), I just take 5k.

Still on the Ddrops; dreading when they run out, because I have THREE bottles of Mercolas nasty-ass mouthwash spray.

lol, I HATE taking a supplement when I discover theirs a better version of it, but I have to take it since I already paid for it.

Any bad side effects? Are you going to decrease levels when the summer comes around?

Zero side effects. And really, what kind of bad side effects could I even possible have? Even at 10,000iu a day, living in such a northern latitude it would be nearly impossible for me to acquire hypercalcemia and other signs of hypervitaminosis D.

I'll test my 25(OH)D levels again in the middle of the summer; as far as reducing dose, I'll continue to take a min of 5,000iu in the morning, and if I'm outside for a large portion of the day, I won't take more. If not, I'll probably take another 5000iu.

Sure we do. Every other year, we get 4 weeks of summer in August. :icon_chee Actually, in Southern Alberta, we have cactus and rattlers. I kid you not.
 
What tests are you using to determine that you don't have hypercalcemia? Are you taking vitamin k2 as well? Soft tissue calcification is not something one should dismiss based on mere speculation.
