What an amazing year for submissions in MMA! As a grappling enthusiast going through this list really made me excited for the new year. Nominees were decided for various reasons ( the pure shock, the transition into, broken limb, going to sleep, etc) there are a few other honorable mentions that I will add later. VOTE!!!! VOTE!!!! How can you not have Julianna Pena vs. Nunes?

Granted, it looked like Nunes just gave up and tapped instantly, but still, my jaw dropped when Pena won, I think everyone's jaw dropped.

I consider it the biggest upset in MMA, way bigger than Holm vs. Rousey.

It should have been a technical submission the moment his arm dislocated but the referee was incompetent. And let the fight continue while the man’s limb was dangling.
