It had everything the JJ v ZW fight had and more from every MMA aspect. It's statically arguably a better candidate for the vote. But this is a straight popularity contest and guys like women more than manlets.

Zhang-Jedrzejczyk was such a good fight that it converted a lot of people who had never bothered to pay attention to a WMMA fight before.

Figueiredo-Moreno was a great fight, but it had too many fouls, including a fight-altering one, and the 5th round fell off dramatically.

Watching just the 5th round you would never guess it was a FOTY contender. Meanwhile, MMA history will never forget the 5th round of Zhang-Jedrzejczyk.

I remember thinking after Round 4 that if this keeps up it could be Fight of the Year.
It didn't, and so it isn't.

I liked the Figgy fight. It’s sorta like that Melendez-Diego fight a few years back. Good, exciting fight (I’m a big Melendez fan) but didn’t have me on the edge of my seat the way Jones-Gus 1 or Hendo-Shogun 1 did. I always thought people overrated how good it was, and I think Figgy-Moreno is overrated as well. Weili-JJ was absolutely insane, I was riveted by that crazy shit. Figgy-Moreno was a good fight. But there was no real close near finishes that I recall, there was no doubt who was winning on the scorecards by the end. It just didn’t reach FOTY levels for me.

It's completely subjective. Because there were a couple knockdowns with follow-ups plus near subs. Similar but different type of fights. The girls stood and punched faces, the guys beat the shit out of each other then had to grapple between breaths. The only argument people have is that it slowed in the 5th. Which was bound to happen when you inflict more damage and output more energy in a fight that takes place over multiple disciplines. Same with DP vs Hooker, they slowed down because of the wear on body from absorbing more force in the shots.
 
It’s close between Deiveson vs Moreno and Dan vs Dustin. The Zhang/Joanna fight was great too but there neither of them got rocked like the aforementioned fights. People getting badly hurt or near finished is a big factor for me in determining an all time great fight. It’s what keeps me on the edge of my seat

There were definitely reasons for the slowdown, no doubt. But the fact that it exists takes this fight down a level for me. You can still slow down some and have a riveting 5th round, like the Jones-Gus and Shogun-Hendo fights I mentioned. But full disclosure: much like WMMA isn’t your favorite thing, flyweights aren’t my favorite thing. It’s really only the past few years that I’ve really come to like the division. So that could play a role too.
