That fight was boring...

I actually got home from the fight and figured I'd check out Sherdog expecting to see a million posts about how this was the worse main event ever. Hell, I enjoy tactical battles, but this was ridiculous, these guys spent 5 rounds doing practically nothing. Like somebody else said, the whole arena was booing and tons of people were leaving after the 3rd round. It was one of the most boring fights I've ever seen with two guys unwilling to really do much at all.

I only partly agree. They did a lot of feeling out and stalling all of that. BUT Wonderboy was very very active throughout the fight. Rory wasn't fighting that way because he wanted it to be like that. He just couldn't get inside or the takedown like he wanted. He didn't start rushing in until the end of the fight and it's easy to see why, he got chewed up by the quick constant strikes of Wonderboy. So what I am saying is that for me this fight wasn't a boring fight of two guys refusing to engage. I saw a slow chess match and I liked seeing it play out. I don't see how a big UFC fan would not be supremely impressed by the skills of Wonderboy, even if it was a slow and largely uneventful fight.

Styles make fights. Both guys had completely different plans of attack.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Zahabi for telling Rory to hold back and be cautious and not try to unload.

I almost made a thread about how Zahabi told Rory going into the FOURTH round to SLOWLY start building pressure. For Christ sake. Rory was very plainly going to lose the decision and this guy is telling him to go slowly in the fourth round? WTF

180 strikes landed....
Lols I have never seen someone add both fighters strikes up to try to make it sound super impressive. And it's not even, like a third of those strikes were landed in the fourth(edit: I meant fifth). There was like a whopping 10 strikes landed in the first round lol. Either way, citing a number like that is a pretty weak argument. You would make it sound like Leonard Garcia fights were entertaining that way. "He threw like 700 punches dude!"

Neither fighter is a boring fighter, bad match ups happen. We all know that fight was boring though, you might as well admit that .

It was definitely a slow and largely uneventful fight. I just wouldn't say hyperbole alluding to those guys not hitting each other in that fight. That fight had lots of strikes thrown and a good amount landed, it's just that the fight had no real brawling with both guys keeping safe for the majority. Rory tried to wade through the punches at the end and paid the price.

Both dudes were a little too respectful of each other.

Wasn't the worst fight by any means, but could certainly have been better.

Yeah I agree. The first 4 rounds were a bore but the last round was exciting. It definitely could have been better. If it wasnt for the last round I would have complained on how boring it was but the last round saved it

MacDonald vs Thompson was boring for a main event. I get it as technical fight but Thompson is boring as watching a snail race. Rory didn't come alive until the last round. Thompson has 0 excitement, fights like a points fighter.
Please UFC never have him fight as a main again.

I had a feeling it was going to be like a careful chess match which would pick up at the end. Both are strikers so was sure they would start slow and respect each other and maybe be defensive the first 2 rounds.

I didn't mind the fight and thought it was good. My friend predicted it to end in the first round. He therefore hated the fight and got bored.

Let's be honest here and stop playing the whole "I'm an educated fight fan" card.

The fight was boring as fuck.

Rory's fault for not pushing more and being willing to take a shot to get inside, but Thompson is not going to make any more fans by running away the whole fight. Literally the minute they'd get in range he would run half-way across the damn cage.

Where was the flash? Where were the hook-kicks, the spin-kicks? Literally threw like 3 in 25 minutes.

I like Thompson as a person, but he is very much capable of stinking up the joint.

Really don't want to see Lawler vs Thompson all that much after that fight.

I watch it with commentary off and enjoyed it.
The problem was with Rory, he goes into wait mode and doesn't engage. In round 3 and 4 he did well stepping into the pocket and having a go but for the most part he was playing at Thompson's game.
I'd rather see him move to a new camp instead of organisation. Apparently he's a beast in the gym but he lulls in fights and could use a coach to show him how to get inside better where his strength advantage can play out rather than waiting on his opponent to do things.

Great fight. I enjoyed the technical chess match.

I guess it was boring for the untrained eyes.

You literally got no likes. Person who told you pointed out your homo behavior got 15+. Think we know where people stand
Well, if you READ the comments many people agree with me, don't really care about likes. And if sitting around drinking and talking ufc is homo behavior guess you're in the same big gay boat as everyone on this site big guy.

Agreed. both were very more tentative than I thought they would be
