On the guilty plea....Chauvin believed that the intense pretrial publicity surrounding the case and the potential for public unrest if he were acquitted made it impossible for him to receive a fair trial in Minneapolis. He claimed that the jury was biased against him, so he took the pleas. Now he is appealing that his right to a fair trial under the Sixth Amendment was violated. He has a real case as the DA withheld the video for over 3 months of George Floyd before he was put on the ground showing he couldn't breath.

On the guilty plea.... Chauvin didn't have the new evidence from a Kansas-based pathologist who disagreed with the prosecution's theory that Floyd's death was caused by Chauvin's actions. This pathologist argued that Floyd died from a combination of pre-existing medical conditions and drug use, rather than from Chauvin's restraint. That is yet another ground for his appeal.
