This happened on November 2nd. We were apparently too consumed with our election to notice.

Well, all but one:

All the media reports at the time were saying 19 casualties, but now it's 32. It's 35 dead counting the gunmen:
Wikipedia said:
On 2 November 2020, three gunmen stormed the campus of Kabul University in Kabul, Afghanistan, killing 32 people and wounding 50 others.[1] The attack began around the time government officials were expected to arrive at the campus for the opening of an Iranian book fair. The three gunmen were later killed during a fight with security forces.[2] The attack occurred around 11:00 A.M. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attack.[2][3]

The attack came after months of increased tensions between the Afghan government, the Taliban, and ISIL-affiliated fighters.[2]

Background[edit]
Located in Kabul's 3rd District, the University of Kabul is one of Afghanistan's largest institutions of higher education with a student body of 22,000.[4] The university had previously been attacked when in July 2019 a bomb had killed nine outside of the university gates.[4] Just over a week before the November attack on the university, a suicide bomber had killed 30 at another educational institution in Kabul.[5]

On the day of the attack the university was hosting an international bookfair.[4][6] Several Afghan government officials and the Iranian ambassador to Afghanistan were expected to attend the event.[7][8]

Attack[edit]
The attack began in the morning of 2 November at around 11:00 A.M. A group of armed gunmen detonated an explosive (possibly a suicide bomber)[6] at the gate to the university's grounds, after which they entered the compound, killing bystanders and later taking around 35 hostages.[9] Many students were able to escape the attack by climbing over the university's perimeter walls, while those trapped in buildings were forced to shelter in place.[9][2] Some of the wounded from the attack were evacuated to nearby Ali Abad hospital.[9]

Kabul police and Afghan army special forces were dispatched to the university and set up a perimeter around the site, after which they engaged in a building-by-building sweep of the grounds over the next several hours.[2][6] American soldiers and Norwegian special forces also responded to the attack.[9][10]

Following the attack, SITE Intelligence Group reported that the regional branch of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) had claimed responsibility for the killings. The Afghan Taliban denied responsibility for the attack, though one Afghan government official attributed it to the group.[9]

Interesting is that despite ISIL claiming responsibility most Afghan government officials believe it was the Taliban despite the deal they signed with Trump's administration in February. The Taliban spokesman insisted they were not complicit.

The Taliban were quick to deny Monday’s attack but were blamed by a number of Afghan government officials regardless; since signing the peace deal with Washington, the Taliban have launched a nearly unprecedented campaign of violence against Afghan government forces and civilians. The United Nations documented 5,939 civilian casualties in the first nine months of 2020, including more than 2,000 killed, and said last week that peace talks have failed to slow this toll.
The Taliban is already becoming the new PLO. They'll insist they're a legitimate political organization, insist they want peace, insist whoever they politically oppose are the real barbarians preventing & sabotaging that peace...yet apathetically look on as terrorist attack after terrorist attack unfolds against that same group they vilify. So predictable.

In searching to see if another had already made this thread I rediscovered this 2016 discussion:
80+ dead, 230+ injured in Kabul

Today, the Afghan government killed an al-Qaeda member and they said the Taliban was harboring him. I guess they’re not super serious with their negotiations.

It's a sad state of affairs. It's difficult not to crumble, and to not give up out of pure exhaustion. The afghan people have suffered so much. What can realistically be done? Alliances, treaties, strong arming?

Kills 32, Wounds 50 Others

Whoa!

there should be a meme about the Taliban.

"Taliban, wants to be perceived by international community as legitimate, governing body....

Kills 80 people for the crime of wanting to be educated.."

So its Muslims killing other Muslims.

So I guess it makes sense what Macron is saying by excluding funding of Mosques from hostile sources like Saudi Mosques who fund radical style Islam.

People like Sadam and Erdogie bad Dogie are quick to point that Macron is being a hardline anti Maslim.

But Its not Mackron turning Muslims into explosives right?

Unless they really make considerable efforts to basically completely change their way of living and thinking, there's no point being there.
Not everyone can be like the Japanese or Germans.
