For all it's problems, namely it's needlessly complicated and incoherent script, Genysis was still more watchable than T4. I don't think I've ever been as bored during an "action" movie as I was with T4. It's so bland and lifeless, and given that it had the best material to work with(future war? Sign me up), and cast(Bale as John Connor is some fantasy casting dream come true), the disappointment was that much worse.
I remember how pumped I was, thinking that if Bale was involved, he must've seen something in the script and crew that I was missing. Then the trailers came out and were awesome, and my fears of McG directing were getting smaller and smaller by the day. Then I saw it. I'll never give a shitty director the benefit of the doubt like that ever again.
