This doctor is punishing the patient for being unwed. It's not a case where the doctor might feel uncomfortable due to religious reasons. It's a lifestyle disagreement. It is fine if you live in a metropolitan area with many doctors. It's not the same if you live in an area with a lack of practitioners or the person is underinsured. Some people can't afford to take multiple days off to take care of their issues.
Denying a patient due to lifestyle differences is silly but they did change the laws for that state. I think it opens a can of worms for other nonsense. Best practice in scenario is at least refer out to another clinic that is close by that is willing to take these patients and if that isn't available then the practitioner has to take up the case.
