im not saying he carried him, but floyd eased into it. he definetly wasnt in a rush, and was pretty comfortable the whole fight.
Floyd definitely tried to miss all those punches and eat an uppercut counter....also planned for the ref to save him after being stunned from the body shot....truly a master of marketing and a modern Confucius.
Yes.
Floyd fought like Floyd always fights. Safe, defensive, counter punching. Conor is much bigger and longer, and likely much better than Floyd realized. After Conor started to gas Floyd took over, but that doesn’t negate some of the clean shots Conor landed in the first few rounds. Very few fighters have landed as clean on Floyd as Conor did, even if it seemed to have little effect. Watching him slip and rip Mayweather in rd. 1 was surreal.
It would be fun to watch a 3 round fight between them. Might negate some of the advantage of lifelong boxers because I guess it takes a long time to build up the level of endurance to fight that long.Rounds 1-3 were in no way typical of Floyd. He's a relatively low output fighter but never in his career has he ever attempted less than 10 punches in a round. He came in knowing that he wouldn't fight back into round 4. You hear him confirming not in the corner after round 3.
Conor did better than he had any right to tho.
As I already explainedNobody likes to get hit, even by weak punches But had Conor posed any threat, I can assure you Floyd would have been faster on his feet, not just walking forward with his hands up.
It's obvious if you dont actually think things through.Of course he carried Conor.
Teddy Atlas isn't God. Floyd says he carried Conor. Several professional boxers have said Floyd carried Conor. It's just obvious. Anyone who knows boxing knows it's obvious, and since Teddy knows boxing, he's probably got an angle to saying this, and saying it at this specific time.
Atlas has been getting more into MMA commentary now. It's possible he just wants to get on the good side of MMA's biggest star. Money and opportunities will make people say all sorts of crap. A Conor McGregor exclusive interview would further get Teddy into the MMA commentary game, and there is money in that. Talking about fighting is his livelyhood, and big boxing fights are mostly dead during the pandemic. So Teddy isn't getting paid right now. Getting into the MMA/UFC commentary game with these sort of statements is a good business plan.
Also, Teddy would make a windfall offering to train McGregor for a rematch with Floyd or another boxing match with someone like Manny Pacciquio. So there several $$$$$$ reasons for him to say this.
Teddy Atlas is a hustler, just like a lot of people in the fight game. He has knowledge and some good insights, but he's not above talking complete bullshit if there if financial incentive or it can help his career.
He always does that shit dudeFloyd was even filmed a couple of days before the "fight" eating some cheeseburgers. Conor was never and will never be a threat to Floyd in a boxing bout.
I don´t know what to do with Teddy. He clearly know A FUCKING LOT about boxing, has been a good coach, but he was always inclined to deliver industrial amounts of BS. Maybe he is trying to carve a business niche for himself in the MMA environment,
I could give a more nuanced view of my point of view, even round by round or strike by strike and you will understand better what i mean.As I already explained
Floyd walked forward as a means of making Conor continually move, reset, never getting a chance to rest or find his ideal punching range. He is susceptible to forward pressure and its something that will make you tired compared to when you can control your range without much resistance.
It's a big reason why Nate's style and ability to walk through punches posed a great difficulty and he gassed quicker.
Another reason is that Conor's close and mid range game is not very good, being forced to fight In that range is responsible for some of the silly, absent of technique punches he threw.
Finally, Conor has a very long reach, along the longest he's ever fought. Playing his typical game would mean allowing Conor to fight at his normal range which makes little sense. As Teddy said, it's not his style to do what he did against Conor, but it was still one of the most effective ways of fighting him
Floyd defended great throughout, even while moving forward. There was no point he allowed himself to take punches. But he's also older, slower and his reflexes weren't that they used to be which allowed him to be hit.
Everyone is a threat even when you least suspect it, regardless of who it is. No elite boxer is that cocky to the point where they just mindlessly allow themselves to take punches. Floyd of all people is not going to take that risk.
He defended beautifully throughout and made him miss on 90% of his punches. People like yourself seem to think he came out of that shell and was like fuck it, this guy ain't shit, let's take some punches. Like, do you guys even know Floyd.. lol
Styles make fights. Floyd adjusts to his opponent.I could give a more nuanced view of my point of view, even round by round or strike by strike and you will understand better what i mean.
From round 4 and on what i see is Floyd doing things he would never do against a competitive opponent.
But at the end of the day, we will never agree either way, no point in discussing this further.

What do you think, should I believe Shertards/Conor haters over Teddy?

nobody suggested he was going to be upset. It was a clear win for Floyd from the jump. Only that he wasnt carried and that everything Floyd did had purpose and strategy.Yeah the best defensive boxer of all time is going to be upset by an MMA fighter. Floyd took it slow on him and disregarded his punching power. He walked forward way more than he does in other fights. He had no respect for Conor's power.
Floyd fought Canelo. Canelo hits harder than Conor and is a much better boxer. Compare the Floyd that fought Canelo to the Floyd fighting Conor.Yes.

There was like a thread with 30+ pro boxers giving their opinion after the fight. All of them showed a great deal of respect and seemed surprised in general. He’s full of shit, it’s not the first time I’ve disagreed with teddy.
I know what I saw, if you think Floyd fought Conor with the same intensity and regard as Judah, pac, Mosley, Cotto, etc you’re lying.
Post the opinions of other boxers, they’ve all said he was carried.
First 3 rounds Floyd did not try. He's putting on a show, giving people what they paid for

From what I've seen, the vast majority of boxers have not jumped on the Floyd carried him train. Only a few.
You'd think if it were such an infallible truth that every boxer and their mother would be shouting it from the roof tops. But no.
What you're suggesting is far from absolute and widely believed amongst the pros.
Styles make fights. People really expect to see Floyd fight the exact same way he has at 40. That was the worst Floyd has ever looked. His feet, reflexes, even technique. Sloppy all around for him. Nobody ever seems to factor that into any kind of equation as even being a possibility though.
