Tarantino Goes Off on Paul Dano

My point is hes one dimensional.
No, I don't think so. He certainly has a signature style, but that doesn't make him one dimensional. His filmography is as diverse as it gets.
Very. He’s the last director who should be talking about acting skills as a broad concept.
That still doesn't make any sense. Again, his movies are routinely filled with great and memorable performances. How does he no know anything about acting, if he's constantly getting great performances out of everyone he works with, and every actor comes out with higher stock than they did going in? The man has literally resurrected careers due to the roles he casts people in, and the performances he gets out of them. He knows a thing or two about acting, dude. It's silly to suggest otherwise.

Lol diverse? Theyre all glorified comic books bruh. He’s been phoning it in since Pulp Fiction. You got some hero worship going on?

WAR TARANTINO

any contrarians who say he's been phoning it in can suck on my balls.

That span a wide range of genres. Are Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill the same types of movies? Inglorious Basterds and Reservoir Dogs are virtually identical, are they? What the hell are you talking about?

That's such an absurd statement. So making three consecutive highly acclaimed epics is "phoning it in"?

I'm not saying you must like his movies, but your critiques leave a lot to be desired. You're just saying vague shit that doesn't get to heart of what you're trying to critique. I mean, I'm still waiting for you to explain the "leniency" his actors are supposedly afforded, because the movie are "pulp".

ooh I just remembered Leo was fantastic in a couple scenes of Hollywood. The one where he demonstrates acting may in fact be best acting in a Tarantino film.

My simple point is that Quentin was simply talking stupid again, and his opinions on broader acting chops is a bit tough to take given the similar nature of his stories and productions.

You really shouldnt get so worked up about the theatre industry. Its pathetic on a good day 👍

So he didn't demonstrate "acting" in Django? This is the crux of the issue I took with your statement. You seem to have a very particular criteria for what defines "acting", and I'm curious as to what it is. Is it when they make subtle facial expressions in a serious scene, or something?

But again, his movies are filled with great and diverse performances. An actor pretty much hits the lottery when they get to work with him, because they have a damn good chance of getting a role of a lifetime. He's actually probably in the top 3 of directors who can get a great performance out of damn near anybody. To suggest that he doesn't have enough knowledge in that area to have an informed opinion is silly.

Bruh, don't play that lame card. We're having a discussion. I mean, you seemed to be personally offended that he criticized Paul Dano's acting abilities. Are you sure you're not getting worked up about the theater industry? C'mon now.

I think he is generally quite good at casting for the characters he creates. I dont believe the roles make the actors, in fact the opposite.

A few have had career resurgence from being in his movies. Travolta being the most notable. Lol @ oscar nomination for it though. Give me a break. Its my fav movie of 90s too fyi.

You could also say many really went nowhere after working on his films either - ie Thurman.

End of the day, QT is generally overrated as a director. His prowess is writing and finding people that fit the character - not creating high level acting roles that are propelling new talent into superstardom.

His comments on Dano are from left field imo, as well as almost every one of his peers.

We will drink to Metallica and throws hands over Quentin. No ball sucking required.

Uma Thurman was basically an unknown before Pulp Fiction.

Didnt do too much after Bill….
Maybe not critically but she’s still working pretty consistently and getting paid $15 million for films like My Super Ex-Girlfriend lol.

Who are these many others?

Waltz. Was heralded as the next great actor after IB. Fanned out after Django and never been a marquee actor.

“The next great actor” He’s a great actor but he was 56 years old when he made Django Unchained. He wasn’t being heralded as the “next” anything.
