I thought it was a fun movie. It was different than pretty much every Supes film we’ve seen so far while still having certain similarities. That’s important because Routh film definitely felt like it was trying too hard to be in the Reeve film lineage and Man of Steel, while awesome in my opinion, was quite stark and gritty.

This film has a solid balance of irreverence and intensity. There were, of course, plot elements and aspects of humor that felt forced or unnecessary. But I think you have to view a film like this in its totality. Was it, ultimately, entertaining? Did it resonate?

Corenswet did a very good job and was a really solid iteration of Superman, in my opinion. I liked the way they played up the well-meaning but filled with doubt and uncertainty angle. Brosnahan was awesome. Pretty much a spot on interpretation of an iconic comic character who has been played well by multiple actresses.

Justice Gang was great in my opinion. Merced is a talented actress. While she was not in that much of the film, she left her mark. Fillion was his usual funny and charismatic self. Gathegi stole every scene he was in. Great character and very fun performance.

I’m a big fan of Hoult. He is versatile. While some of his best work involves a comedic element, his Luthor has no levity about him at all which was probably a good thing. In reality, this was the most detestable version of Luthor we’ve seen on film thus far.

I enjoyed it. Plot might have been middle of the road but the execution elevated it. I liked the action set pieces and the cast delivered. The visual effects, by and large, were solid. The pacing was very good. Plus, it made me excited for what is to come in the DCEU under Gunn.

Impressively, Gunn is 5 for 5 in my view when it comes to comic book films. All 3 Guardians movies, Suicide Squad reboot, and Superman were enjoyable.

I was wondering when your review would show up. Glad you liked it. Your take and a few others in this forum are my North Star. Meaning if our view on a movie is so drastically far apart, it makes me question what I got wrong.

The movie was solid. 8/10

Felt like a more quirky/lighthearted version of Superman. Superman had a lot of adversity throughout the movie and it's always a good element.

The guy who played Lex luthor did an awesome job. Previous versions of lex were so bad imo.

I still think it sucks not having Henry Cavill as Superman

The mention of Hideo Kojima reminded me of how much he's been simping over Caroline Polachek over the last year or so. Which, for the record, I completely approve of.

Hideo Kojima's Review of SUPERMAN, Calls It a "Heartwarming Human Film"

Hideo Kojima: "Since I’ve been on a world tour, I hadn’t had the chance to watch it, but this morning, I finally got to see James Gunn’s “Superman.” It was good. It was neither dark nor stylish, cool or even “super.” The perspective of the audience—the distance and elevation—is different from the “Superman” we used to LOOK UP (into the sky) to. This film gently observes the human being Clark Kent and Superman as one and approaches him from the same human perspective. It’s a heartwarming “human” film. The movie itself wasn’t “punk,” but “Punkrocker” by Teddybears, with vocals by our very own Iggy Pop, played during the credits — that part was pure punk, and it was amazing."

Then he called everyone gay.

How? Superman was an utter piece of dogshit rolled in monkey shit. How do you guys actually like this steaming pile of turd?

Does anyone have actual good taste when it comes to film anymore?
i think you got my comment wrong.

i also think it's a pile of shit.

I think a Batman would fit in well with this universe because Mister Terrific's role in the Superman film was basically Batman.

Mister Terrific was the brains of Justice Gang. He is portrayed as being too serious at times. He gave commands on how to take down the kaiju. He helped Lois track down Superman. He was a one-man army against LuthorCorps' goons. He understood the pocket universe and tried to stop it. He lets Lois borrow his airship. Now imagine all of these scenes done by Batman. It fits, right? More or less you get a live-action version of the Justice League animated series.

I miss the DCAU.
