I don't think it was the fall. To me when he's walking out he's moving one arm and not the other, and if you watch the match again, at the tachiai he gives up immediately after the top of his head hits Kotonowaka. I'm not saying i'm right but i think he got jolted down the back-left side of his neck.
i think i saw a slow-mo replay on the NHK feed where Ishiura was already wincing in pain right before the tachiai. looked like his neck.

Damn, i wonder what happened. I guess we'll see later today how long he's expected to be out for.

Kinda feel like Ura got screwed in that mono-ii, should have been a do-over IMO. You can't tell for sure when the heel is down.

neck injury confirmed; out of the basho for recommended 2 weeks rest.

Damn that sucks. I've only injured my neck twice in my life and it was just from turning around too quick playing football when i was a kid, the doctor said it was almost like whiplash and i wasn't able to turn my head to the right for weeks.

Wouldn't wish it on anybody.

Tochi dumps discount Abi into the dirt, nice to see.

Akua gets Chiyonokuni to the edge without using his usual brand of sumo and then it suddenly occurs to Akua "i haven't thrown him", and needless to say Akua's brain couldn't decide what to do and it all fell apart, sad times.

A damn shame Wakamotoharu's throw didn't land him the win.

I was so sure Hoshoryu had blown his match straight away but he kept his balance and somehow managed to get behind Tamawashi before driving him out, up to 2-2 after the poor start.

Abi adapts well to Meisei's pressure and doesn't try to slap at all, instead sees the arm and woosh!

Mita you cut it close there, a bit too passive for my liking, but a win is a win.

Man Teru just walked through Ichinojo like he wasn't even there.

And now a moment of silence for Shodai...

Is it disrespectful that i burst out laughing at how Ura handled Shodai?

Lol I'm glad I'm not the only one who calls Ichiyamamoto discount Abi :D

Day 4 AkA Palm strike day

Tochi with the power

Wakataharu with the massive throw too bad he was out.. absolutely loved it

Takayasu earned it today..great match..4-0

Man heart breaking loss for wakatakakage... looked like he was getting ready to counter

Abi with the slick arm drag very nice!!

Mitakeumi saved by the straw...wow...how close was that

Shodai proving ...when it rains it pours...man cant buy a win

Terunofuji continuing the aggressive attacks on his challengers ... Terunofuji with dead eyes leaving the ring...looking good after day 4

What a great day of action... hoping Ishi will be okay

Man Ura just launched Shodai outta there.

Wakatakakage steps back but against a solid opponent.

Terunofuji getting his customary free W.

Hoshoryu looking better

great day 4.
my boy Takakeisho finally doing what he does best.
and man, Shodai must have some heat because even adorable Ura threw him off the dohyo as hard as he could.

ps @Ichinojo <{fry}>

Well Shodai finally gets a W while Terunofuji takes another L.
Maybe he needs a rest?

Murray Johnson's breakdown of Tamawashi's win over Terunofuji was great. he was saying before the match that Tamawashi had to play it slow against Terunofuji and basically play defense and keep him off his mawashi. he did such a great job of keeping Terunofuji off his mawashi and pushing him back slowly but surely. really fantastic match from Tamawashi.

Shodai gets a win finally, and hopefully that helps him.

Kiribayama showed great power sumo against Mitakeumi as well. i thought he was in real trouble at the start of the match but he did well to work his way away from the edge and then positioned himself to the side of Mitakeumi using his head really well to create that space.

Wakatakakage vs. Hoshoryu was a really good match too. good show of strength from Wakatakakage.

Kinda rooting for Takayasu tbh, he's a former ozeki but has never won a top division title.

I like how this tournament seems so wide open compared to the last few

havn't really been following Sumo in a while. Now that Hakuho is retired, who is the consensus best in the world now?
