Strength in Interesting Places

I think this is also my problem with the press, always seems a little easier if I power clean it first, glad I'm not the only one.

Seems like there must be a few of us.

I wish there was some way I could set up for bench press explosively... based on how much it helps my press, my bench would probably go over 100kg.

- Just taking it easy getting back into pressing and deadlifting; I'll be able to go harder next time I do 5's for the press, and next week on the DL
- No extra work- no assistance or greasing the groove. That can be tomorrow.
- Found some violin rosin; couldn't quite figure out how to apply it, but breaking off a tiny bit makes it crumble, and then it gets into the skin. The resulting grip for deadlift is pretty great.

This is definitely the most entertaining log on sherdog.

Very kind, guys, thanks.

Over the next few weeks, there will be a lot of workout logging as I will be in the gym almost every day. But I'll try to keep not to forget what makes this log good in the first place (pictures of hot babes, anecdotes, pictures of interesting places, JauntyPoints, etc).

The humor and good spirits keeps me comming back (also the babes) But most of all since jaunty seems like a good guy with interesting stories. Allthou i still await the pix from the afghanistan gym!

Thanks, Din!

We were still getting the gym sorted out when I left. Also, our ops manager hasn't given me a budget yet, so I don't know how much new stuff I will get. Right now I am out for about three weeks. I'll start working on it when I get back, and it will be done in about a week. Pics will then follow!

there is a sympathetic nervous system response when you clean the weight prior to pressing it. You might get something similar if you picked the weight up at the top of your rep(think bench and the tightness you achieve on the way down). Its science somehow and I can't explain it but smart people can.

Conditioning and BW exercises day. Today I did:

Dips (5,5), Chins (5,5), 400m Sprint (15kmph)
Dips (5,5), Chins (5,5), 400m Sprint (16kmph)- interrupted
Dips (5,5), Chins (5,5), 400m Sprint (16kmph)
Dips (5,5), Chins (5,5), 2 mins on stair climber at 120ft/minute
Dips (5,5), Chins (5,5)

As usual, with dips and chins the point is to get good volume but to stay away from failure. Next time I can definitely do more than 5 reps at a time, and probably go for more total volume, perhaps 60 of each.

The sprints were okay. 15kmph was still too slow. 16kmph was starting to feel a bit more like a sprint, but I had to stop as my lace became undone. Then when I restarted the machine died after about 300m. The second try at that speed was a lot of fun. I think 17kmph or 18kmph would be a proper but do-able sprint (for me), and I would have got there, but a guy started using the sole remaining treadmill.

So I tried a short burst on the stair climber. I didn't know how fast it would go, or what any particular speed would be like, so I set it high-ish (120 feet a minute). It was a good speed, and doing it for two minutes was moderately tough. Less hard aerobically than a 400m sprint, but more resistance- afterwards my legs were pretty tight. I could definitely do more of those, and faster, but I left it with that because of my 'first time you do anything, take it easy' rule.

Tomorrow is a proper lifting day, so no cardio or greasing the groove. I'll probably be back to it the day after, then a day of rest.

Notes
- Squats were pretty good. This is heavier than I have been for a while and I feel I have plenty more left in me. The depth was only okay on the first two sets, but then I put the belt on and it helped a lot. For some reason, I feel like I can get out of the hole a lot easier when I am wearing the belt.
- Bench was hard. Still not quite at the level I was 3-4 weeks ago. Hopefully I will get it back and then go on to improve.
- Started doing BORs and felt some discomfort in my back, so switched to Inverted Rows.
- I settled on a simple, new approach to assistance. Rather than stressing on what assistance exercise to do, I will simply settle on one which I think I am pretty weak at. I will then do it 2/3 times a week, for maybe 4 weeks, so I get some beginners' gains. Then I will move on to a new one. I decided to start with incline bench at a 45 degree angle. The official line is that this should have good carryover to SOHP, but of course the real reason is that incline bench develops the tops of the pecs, and that's the part that really pops when you are wearing a t-shirt.
- Also got some curls and abs work in today. Because everyone knows that when you die, you have to spend 7 years in purgatory for every venal sin, and 100 years for every mortal sin, minus 1 year for every tonne that you curled in your life, and minus 0.5 years for every thousand reps of an ab exercise that you did. It's in the Bible- book of Midmo, chapter 3, verse 7.

A lot of people say that my log is mainly about anecdotes, gags and pictures of hot women, and not about sports and athleticism.

Well, here's some pictures that prove just how serious I am about sports and athleticism:

I trust that this issue has now been put to bed.

also it now contains quotes about sports

I just have this thing inside me that wants to eat and conquer. Maybe it's egotistical, but I have it in me. I don't want to be a tycoon. I just want to conquer people and their souls."

Greasing the Groove/Conditioning Day

Today I upped the volume on each set of dips and chins to 12, doing 2 chunks of 6.

1. Dips- 6,6; Chins, 6,6; Sprint 400m @16kmph
2. Dips- 6,6; Chins, 6,6; Sprint 400m @16kmph
3. Dips- 6,6; Chins, 6,6; Sprint 400m @16kmph
4. Dips- 6,6; Chins, 6,6; Sprint 400m @16kmph
5. Dips- 6,6; Chins, 6,6

Total volume- 60 dips, 60 chins

The dips were much easier today- faster and more explosive, less tiring and easier to go deep. I will probably up it to 7/7 each set next time (day after tomorrow), and after that start making the first set a little longer (i.e. move to 8,6 then 9,5 etc).

The sprints were okay. Probably need to squeeze a bit more speed out of them, but they are starting to feel like sprints. Conditioning still sucks, though.

what's with all of the conditioning stuff lately?

i can't even comment on anything anymore... :-(

i just come here to look at the ladies

Hoping to be able to rock that six pack without having to use a black marker!

Okay, not really. It's just that I am home at the moment. My wife is working, my daughter is at school, so I have plenty of time and am going to the gym almost every day. Proper lifting tomorrow- squats, overhead press and chins.
