Strength in Interesting Places

I read that as BLACK MARKET, and thought your in Thailand is there even such a thing as a black market in Thailand and if so what sort of wonderful things they might sell

I guess usually a black market is an informal/illegal market for something that is usually regulated, like for currency in a country where the government fixes the exchange rate. Thailand doesn't really have anything like that. But it does have places where you can get semi-illegal things, like copied DVDs and software, prescription medication without a prescription (tranquilizers, viagra, stuff like that), copies of brand-name clothes and bags and so on. But that is pretty common in this part of the world.

Notes
- Squats were damn hard today; on reps 9 and 10 of the second and third sets I was making noises like a guy trying to avoid being strangled. I was kind of in a daze for the whole of the rest of the workout. Afterwards, went for late/second breakfast, and I almost didn't have enough energy to eat. Only starting to feel normal again now, about 2 hours later. 5x10 day is brutal, but I feel that T3 is already showing signs that it is working. I love it.
- I was pretty conservative with the press, but it felt pretty good.
- Had the inevitable 'Hey, I can use this piece of equipment for Glute-Ham Raises' experience in the gym today, so I did some, supersetted in with the incline bench.
- No sign of all the extra dips and chins I am doing on off days affecting me negatively; if anything, feels like the reverse.

Nice liftin' Jaunty.

Re-reading the Jim Wendler 'rules' article Tosa posted earlier. They are all great, but I really liked these two:

8. Your body is not different than anyone else but your attitude can be.

9. You will not be impatient; the grind is where character is made. Focus on what you have to do TODAY to make tomorrow better. This is a lifelong project.

T NATION | Training Lab LiVESPILL

I know I've been guilty of thinking too much about tomorrow with my lifting. I need to just concentrate on making every workout as good as it can be, and let the future take care of itself.

Greasing the Groove Day

No conditioning today as I was feeling a little beaten up from yesterday's squats- instead I opted for just 2 minutes on the cross-trainer after each round of GTG, just as 'active recovery'. Changed from doing chins and dips on 6/6 to 7/5- next time I will move it to 7/6. Added GHRs. Did

Chins- 7,5; Dips 7,5; GHRs (assisted)- 2,2; Cross-trainer- 2 minutes
Chins- 7,5; Dips 7,5; GHRs (assisted)- 2,2; Cross-trainer- 2 minutes
Chins- 7,5; Dips 7,5; GHRs (assisted)- 2,2; Cross-trainer- 2 minutes
Chins- 7,5; Dips 7,5; GHRs (assisted)- 2,2; Cross-trainer- 2 minutes

In my last 7 of chins I started to get a bit tired, so I called it a day on only 48 chins and 48 dips. The GHRs are improving- I can very nearly do a full negative (I lose it only in the last inch or two) and I only need a small push to get up. Will do 3,3 next time. A bit half-assed today, but they can't all be great workouts.

The conditioning part hit home for me. At least three times a week, and if you are fat and out of shape then everyday until you're not. I will obviously need to put this on hold for a couple of weeks, but will implement this as soon as I can.

Notes
- Bench felt good, either because my strength is coming back, or because of the dip work. Either way, I feel like progression is possible again.
- I started on the 5/3/1 rep scheme/progression for the lift of death, using 90% of my 1RM as my starting value for the 1RM calculation. This means I won't be going really heavy for me in the next few months, which is okay by me as I can concentrate on squats. But there will be more volume, and AMRAP sets. Today was the first time I ever did more than 5 reps of a deadlift. Tiring.
- Incline bench makes my shoulders a little sore, but doing face pulls afterwards seems to make that go away. I remain sure that this is going to help my OHP a lot. Also- upper pec development FTW.
- Still can't do a single GHR without assistance, or a negative. But I think I am getting better at these.

How far are you into this style of lifting at this point?

How far are you into this style of lifting at this point?

Well, my first T3 workout was the 30th of May, and that is also when I started my current template (Squats Monday and Friday, Deadlift Wednesday, alternating bench/row and press/chins). So you could say about 6 weeks. But because of the almost two weeks I missed, I haven't got as far through T3 as I'd like- it takes about 2-3 full cycles (one cycle being a 5x10 day, a 5x5 day and a 5x3 day) to get the right weights, especially for bench and press.

Other parts of my programme are more up in the air. It took me a while to decide that I would do whatever rows I feel like on bench day(inverted, barbell, dumbell), and it took until yesterday to decide to programme my deadlift with 5/3/1. It was only this week or last week that I decided how to approach assistance work (pick 1/2 exercises and do them every lifting day for 3-4 weeks).

So you could say that I am not far into it at all- the elements are only just starting to come together right now. But I am extremely happy with it all- especially T3 for squats- even only on the third cycle I feel much stronger in the squat than I ever have been.

I've been neglecting my duties to educate my readers about sustainable agriculture lately. So... I'd like to draw attention to the topic of rubber. Although rubber is often grown in plantations, it can also be grown in the jungle, with rubber trees mixed in with non-productive trees. The result is an eco-system almost identical to the natural environment, which produces a very high-value cash crop and which of course helps to offset global carbon emissions. You'll be pleased to know that in Indonesia, one of the world's largest rubber producers, most rubber is produced through this method.

Plantation rubber, of course, while not ideal is still marginally preferable to monocroped field crops like wheat and maize. But what would be ideal is a rubber labelling scheme, which clearly showed when rubber products were produced through the jungle rubber system. Ideally, it would be backed up with a strong marketing campaign, to ensure that 'jungle rubber' products could command a small price premium.

Another virtue of rubber is that it can be used to produce outfits like this:

I am proud to admit that you are my teacher, model and inspiration. I was never that motivated by world affairs, the plight of the poor and needy, environmental issues, etc. But you completely turned me around on this issue.

I have always preached about my version of reality but no one listened til I included the hot chicks.

(another great way to reduce the enviromental impact of rubber production on the earth is simply to use less of it)

Note to self: have to start warming up my adducters more before I lift. For a few months now I've been consistently tight in them after squatting, and today it is particularly notable. It's not a big deal to add it to my random dynamic stretching... just have to remember.

Note to Self:Invest all lotto winning in the latex rubber futures market

(put in Jaunty's log since I visit it more than my own at this point)

A lot of people think that financial derivatives are bad or wrong in some way, but I think we can all get behind latex futures.

Feeling a bit tight in the back from the high-rep DLs yesterday, so decided not to do any chins today- just very light lat pull downs to balance the dips. Also no GHRs. For conditioning, did sprints on the stair climber. Damn, that is hard. After a while, my arms started to feel a bit sore and fatigued, so I didn't even do as many dips as I wanted to.

I went:

Dips- 7,6; Lat pull-downs- 120; 2mins on stair climber @ 130ft/minute
Dips- 7,6; Lat pull-downs- 120; 2mins on stair climber @ 130ft/minute
Dips- 7,6; Lat pull-downs- 120
Dips 5, Lat pull-downs 5
Dips 5, Lat pull-downs 5
Dips 5, Lat pull-downs 5
Dips 5, Lat pull-downs 5
Dips 5, Lat pull-downs 5

TOTAL = 64 dips

I'm feeling that all these dips, incline bench as assistance on lifting days, and my normal three pressing days a week is getting a bit heavy on my shoulders. I will probably need to ease up on the dips soon.

Notes
- First time doing 5x10 on shoulder more realistic weights (first time I took it super-easy); pretty tough. Last two rep of the last two sets had to push press to get it up.
- Top set of squats wasn't the greatest, but after that they settled down and were fine. Good depth, I think.
- Chins felt great- felt really strong. I was doing them from a really high bar, and UI was getting a really good Range of Motion.

Latex-overload, shutting down!

Also, do you have any links to the philosophy behind T3, need more info on it :)
