Kabul: Week 6, Workout 2
Note- I had a very light lunch (a small tuna salad) and no mid-afternoon snack today. Might have been reflected in my lack of stamina today. Or it could have been one of those days.
Warmup
JA Stretching Series
Sun Salutation A x5, x3, x2'
Squats
Work Sets: 93kg x5, x5, x5
Very tired by these. Felt like a lot of work. The depth of the first two sets was good, the last was only parallel. I decided not to do any backoffs or extra volume.
Bench
Work Sets: 83kg x5, x5, x3
Backoff: 60kg x10, x10, x10
83kg was actually harder than last time at the same weight! First set was hard, second set I did by being pissed off, but it was a little ragged. Cut it short after 3, and did some narrow grip at a lighter weight. As before, the sticking point no longer seems to be getting it off my chest. It is half way up.
I am wondering if I am getting a little tired of 3 sets of 5 across with linear progression. I could drop the weight down a couple of kilos, do ramped sets for a little while, maybe some heavy triples or something.
Deathlift
Given how heavy everything was, I didn't fancy a set of five, so I thought I would try some heavy singles and try to set a PR. My previous max was 140kg (plus some light collars). I went
60kg x3
90kg x2
110kg x1
130kg x1
140kg x1
145kg x1 (+5kg PR!)
150kg x1 (+10 kg PR!)
150kg was hard to get off the ground, but no problems with grip or lockout. I might have had another 5kg in me, but I pulled off a blister right next to a callus, and I was worried that with the callus so exposed I might rip it off.
I also made a video. Coming in a separate post.
* * *
With how heavy the squats and bench was, and the deathlift PR, I decided not to do any more work. Felt great after the DLs though. Not fried at all- actually quite energetic. And my back felt good somehow- relaxed and straight.
