No one who wrote the NT knew Jesus.

The NT is inconsistent with major details of his life.

We have no original documents from the first century, and scraps at best from the second century.

Jesus wrote nothing at all.

There are no contemporaneous corroborations from independent sources.

In order to believe the NT, you have to disregard all of that and more, and take the word of the anonymous authors of the four gospels, who themselves were relying on the word of people who were recounting the story from people claiming to be witnesses.

I have read that none of the historians of the time when jesus was supposed to of lived actually mentioned him in their writings at that time. If that is true it seems odd to me considering the miracles jesus is claimed to of performed. I'd of thought some of the stuff he did would of been huge news back then. Actually it would be big news today as well, wouldn't it?

There is little doubt there was a historical figure called Jesus Christ. That much I’m surprised is even being debated anymore. Everything else-how a wandering cult leader became the foremost divine figure in the World-is where the mystery lies.

What historians are you referring to?

The historians whose writings came to make up the New Testament. They are the oral traditions passed down through th Apostles. It is a well documented fact that Pontius Pilate's diary containing his writings about his time in Judah and his interactions with the man who came to be know as Jesus survived more or less in it's original form into the Early Middle Ages when it was taken by monks to a monastery where the current canonical story of Jesus was created, and the actual history of the real man and Pontius Pilate destroyed. All that means is there had to be a real man at the core of that to begin with.
