Strong science in epilepsy? No. This is exactly what I am talking about.
There has been little high-quality research into the use of cannabidiol for epilepsy. The limited available evidence primarily focuses on refractory epilepsy in children.[13] While the results of using medical-grade cannabidiol in combination with conventional medication shows some promise, they did not lead to seizures being eliminated, and were associated with some minor adverse effects.[13]
Preliminary research on other possible therapeutic uses for cannabidiol include several neurological disorders, but the findings have not been confirmed by sufficient high-quality clinical research to establish such uses in clinical practice.[6][9][14][15][16]
There is no high quality research on any of this and you are stating it as fact. That is what snake oil is. It comes with the FDA disclaimer too like all other supplements. None of these claims have been proven.
For most its about health benefits real or perceived and the anecdotal evidence is huge. Could it all be psychosomatic? Sure. But I personally know so many people dealing with chronic pain and some with Cancer who swear by it. That type of belief (again real or perceived) will continue to drive this IMO. Even a placebo effect is a benefit if that is all much of it is. Mental state (ie belief) is often a key to healing and better outcomes. It's like weed but you don't get high..
Then what is the fucking point???
Calling it snake oil (even borderline) is silly. I would agree the hype is way out front of it as a magic cure all and the studies will be done now to determine where and where it does not have strong benefits.
But there is certainly strong science, verified science at least in the area of treatment of seizures and epilepsy. That alone makes it not snake oil let alone the early info (to be verified) that it has benefits to anxiety, pain and other.
...We need more research but CBD may be prove to be an option for managing anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain. Cite
...Some preliminary research suggests that CBD may help with arthritis pain...CBD relieved arthritis pain and inflammation. On the other hand, results of human studies are mixed. For example, a 2016 analysis of human trials for RA, OA and fibromyalgia found that CBD improved pain and sleep, cite
But yes the hype is high.
See post 803 which shows why that type of blanket swipe is silly.yeah, like omega-3. ie: fish oil. or flax/walnut oil. and many other oils/essential fatty acids. probably literal snake oil, too, so... yeah, it probably is more/less snake oil.

Its so obvious I still cannot see it.*sigh*
so defensive that you can't even see the obvious joke.

You do as i honestly still cannot follow what you think the joke is? Is around the term "Wonky claims" which I have made none or is it the highlighted "essential", I don't know, and i don't see the joke. Its possible its going over my head but its also possible its not fumy because almost nothing goes over my head. I am too fast and catch them!ACTUAL snake oil is probably as effective as cbd in some of the wonky claims you're making. especially re: arthritis and anything that's joint/brain related - that oils tend to be essential for. oops, i did it again. i guess i need to highlight that joke, too.

You're right that we can throw sources with agenda's at things all day. But what we CANNOT do is throw videos at one another. Have you watched the videos Harvard references? You should as they are stark and unless you believe seeing is not believing or you think the person suffering a seizure is an actor, there simply is no denying that it is having a massive impact there. We can throw sources at each other all day. The point is, it is very similar to all the supplements that have fda disclaimers on them. It has become a huge business and I think people are being taken advantage of.

So comparing it to snake oil or things that may just have a placebo effect is not a fair or objective assessment and denotes some hard core unyielding bias.
Is it fair to say the hype around it are way out in front with few of the claims properly tested or proven? Absolutely. But it is wrong to say its snake oil as if nothing has been proven. In the very early days of testing, testi9ng that is made difficult by gov't prohibition Federally, there is at least one massive medical benefit found and others indicated.
